The AMA suggests two hours tops which includes TV, videos, ipods, nintendo's, etc. On a school night it should probably be less and balanced between homework and family time.

Should children be allowed unrestricted TV viewing after school?  How much TV is too much?  Does TV stunt learning and stifle imagination?  These questions are explored in this article. read more

I think less than three times a week and no more than an hour. Also, parents should limit their time watching TV in front of their kids to set a good example.

We have what is called screen time in my house. This involves watching TV, computer use for leisure, video games, apps, or handheld video games. I would say no more than 2 hours per day. We rarely get that though with sports practice, dance, music lessons, and church activites each week. So, when our power was off for a week due to a wind storm -  the kids didn't even miss it! So, if you children could not live without electronics/technology for a week then there might be a problem.

I think parents to be follow time schedule to watch TV.When your children sit to study,it is not wise to tune the TV by the parent. It will  divert the concentration of your children. Restrict the child and enjoy yourself will slowly create a disobey behavior in your child or they simply go back from lessons and become back word in study.
Time schedule for children as well as parent are more welcome in this concerned.

I allow my son to watch tv but he doesn't watch long, maybe an hour of his favorite educational program, not cartoons. He prefers to use computer and Ipad instead.

Thanks for all the input. I may be starting TV free Tuesdays as a way to cut back!
