Anytime I did something with a bunch of friends that my mother disapproved of she used to say, "If Kate jumped off a bridge, would you jump too?" Eventually I got old enough to come up with a few responses that earned me a slap or two.
Conversation would go along the lines of...
Mum: "If Kate jumped off a bridge would you jump too?"
Me: "Well, it depends."
Mum: Develops puzzled look and then asks "Depends on what?"
Me: Well, are you on the bridge or at the bottom of the bridge?"
Swift slap my way.
The other thing that earned me a slap was when I was unable to eat everything on my dinner plate. She'd tell me about the starving kids in Africa. (My mother is African so she painted a great picture, but we lived in the UK and after hearing this almost every week since you can remember you start to lose your temper. I appreciated that we had what a lot of children don't but whether I eat it or not isn't going to have any kind of effect on them) So I asked for a stamp so I could send it to them. Needless to say I got a slap.
