Is it acceptable for parents to have plastic(cosmetic) surgery for young children?
Some parents want to help their young children by getting cosmetic surgery on help them gain acceptance from others and not get bullied.
Examples are ears pinned, nose reduced, etc.
I am against this idea, we don't teach children to change to make the world accept them. We teach them to change the world and make it an acceptable place.
If a child is actually born with a "deformity" for example a cleft lip and cleft palate and the parents have the means to pay for surgery to correct it I see nothing wrong with that.
Even if a child had an extremely large nose or some other feature that was considered for the most part "abnormal" in size or shape I wouldn't hold it against a parent for helping their child if they asked for a modification.
It's not always about whether someone is "bullied' or not but rather how do they feel about them self. It's human nature for unhappy people to want to make changes.
Most people for instance who diet aren't being bullied.
However things like breast implants, face lifts, skin peels, or gastric bypass surgery are things that would have to wait until adulthood if the child so desires them and (they) can afford it..
Yes a cleft palate or some other major deformity is not cosmetic, it's a necessary surgery. There's a growing trend for kids to get cosmetic surgery to fit in and not be bullied. It seems society supports surgery more than stopping bullies...
I don't believe cleft palate is not a "necessary surgery". One can live their entire life without getting it and function quite normally. The surgery is for cosmetic reasons. I agree with you lots of teens want to be admired or look like "stars".
Well of course parents can do as they please but they are certainly teaching the wrong lesson to their children by doing that. Such a shame too but maybe that is how their parents taught them....
Not really plastic surgery, unless if there is a deformity such as a cleft palate as another person already said or if the child is born with a strawberry birthmark on their face. I saw something on the news a few months ago where this one girl's face was different on each side. She was referred to the girl as two faces. She was bullied and had surgery to make each side symmetrical-she was a teenager.
