I think you should keep an eye out for when they go towards the liking of undies; for instance, if you think they're ready, then go ahead. If your in a store of some sort, and they have undies and you walk past that section and your toddler goes toward that, ask them if they like it.
When you get the kid trained not to poop in their diapers/pampers.
When you decide that they're ready to be potty trained. My godsister was potty trained at the age of one. We realized she was ready because she couldn't stand being wet/dirty. It irritated her so much.
For most children it will be sometime between their second and third birthday. Some are ready earlier than others, and some are more enthusiastic than others. You should give it a go when you think your child might be ready, i.e. interested in using the potty, but if there is no success then putting it off for a while might be better. Keeping positive about it all is probably the most important thing, for if your child becomes negative it could turn into a battle. Girls are often ready to be trained earlier than boys because they have better bladder control at a younger age. And most children will not master the art of bladder control at night until much later.

My oldest daughter is two now, and her daycare says that they want to have all their kids potty trained by the time they're 3. I don't want to rush her into anything, but just recently, I started thinking maybe she was getting ready to try. She kept pulling her pants down and taking her diaper off....
