Ideally pinging was for computer technician where they go to start, then run, and they type: ping(IP number), and if the computers are well networked, they will “see” each other.
In internet marketing, pinging follows the same principle as social bookmarking. There are several sites that 'ping' - which is to send your hub link to many social bookmarking and blog directory websites all at once. The most popular are Autopinger and Pingomatic. It’s easy to do and quickly spreads the word your hub is new and out. Just do this: get the url of one of your hubs, open the page: http://autopinger.com/ ,add your url and click submit. Your url will be posted to tens of bookmarkings sites and blogs as you watch.

Hi! I decided just now to visit all the sites of people who have signed up for my fanclub and sites of whom I am a fan. I'm doing this because I think it's good to see what other folks are up to, but also because I wanted to enlighten you and your readers to something I'm doing on my hub.
I am writing a novel entitled Antiquity Calais: Standing At Armageddon. Presently I have a few chapters I want to flesh out so I can bring this book to a close. I have decided to write one chapter - Chapter 18 - as a work in progress on my hub. In that way, my readers will be able to see the progress of this chapter as it unfolds. What's more, I have also decided that anyone who generates an idea that I incorporate into this chapter or anywhere else in the book will receive special recognition in the acknowledgements of the book, and a complimentary electronic copy of the whole book when it is done.

And obviously I love the Black and White medium too. There's just something about it that draws me in. I used to be a graphite pencil artist though, so maybe that's where it comes from. I like the world in Black and White with shades of grey. Lol. :D
