The benefits come partly because a Mediterranean type diet is nourished with very healthy foods and partially because it does not rely on fat reducing foods which are high in refined stuffs ,(like artificial sugar used to make those stuffs ) the findings say so .
Reduce the amount of fat you eat by choosing fewer high-fat foods and cooking with less fat.
Avoid completely, the food that is high in sugar content eg. fruit juices sold in the market , fruit-flavored drinks, sodas, and also reduce the tea or coffee sweetened with sugar.
Check the use of salt in your cooking and at the table as well. Avoid high sodium food like salty fish, nuts canned and packaged soups, pickles, and processed meat too.
