Slider Burgers for 4th of July

When it comes to the 4th of July, one of the first things that comes to mind are having cookouts and gatherings to celebrate Independence Day.
Slider Burgers are nothing new. Actually, Rachel Ray has a new book out dedicated to burgers; although I have not seen the book except on QVC I am sure she has a lot of slider burger recipes listed in it.
There are several reasons why I like them so much: 1st. They are smaller portion size so if you are counting calories you do not have to feel guilty for eating one (or two) 2nd. They fit perfect in children's hands which would make them a perfect party food 3rd. You get a lot for your money which would almost consider this dish low budget 4th. It is not a hard dish to make.
I came up with my recipe actually by experimenting a lot. I wanted to come up with a tasty recipe and after a few attempts, this recipe was born. When it comes to sliders do not only limit yourself to hamburgers. You can make just about anything into a slider because basically what you are making are small size sandwiches!
- 1 lb. Lean Ground Beef
- 1 lb. Mild Italian Sausage
- I Medium Onion, Chopped and Sauteed
- 4 oz. Monterey Jack Cheese, *Please do not use another kind
- 1/4 cup Bread Crumbs
- 1 Egg
- 1 1/2 -2 teaspoons Emeril's Spice Mix, *See link for recipe
- 1/2 cup Ketchup
- Couple Dashes Worcestershire Sauce
- Prep time: 15 min
- Cook time: 5 min
- Ready in: 20 min
- Yields: I get 21 Sliders from making half of this recipe
- To be honest I put everything in the bowl and mix it well (but do not over mix it, it will make them dry)
- I used a small ice cream scoop (the 1 oz. scoop if I am not mistaken) and scoop some of the mixture and flatten sightly. They cook really fast maybe 2-4 minutes depending how well you like your hamburgers.
- Above when I listed the Monterey Jack Cheese, I have used other cheeses before but the Monterey Jack just adds this unique flavor that goes with the other ingredients.
July 4th Fireworks!!!
This little burger can be dressed with whatever ingredients you like.
-Some traditional dressings would be: lettuce, tomato, onions, ketchup, mustard, mayo, pickles.
-You can grill them, fry them or bake them
-You can add turkey meat instead of lean ground beef, turkey sausage instead of Italian, you could even make black-bean burgers
-You can make chicken salad sliders
-bacon cheeseburger sliders
-You can even have mini sub sliders filled with cold-cuts

More Than Just a Slider
One of the things I love most about smaller portions of food is the fact if you do not have to deprive yourself of something you want if you are watching your calories.
Making anything you want into a mini size version is something that will help heal the edge of your cravings for food you should not eat. I touched lightly on the fact that sliders can be made from anything..you can make them as healthy as you want including making your own slider buns OR even using certain kinds of lettuce as wraps.
Sliders are fantastic to make for parties for both children and adults. They are great for Halloween if you plan on having a Halloween Party.
The most fun thing is you can even make mini cupcakes and muffins by using a mini muffin pan. You could even make mini quiche!
When you are trying to decide on something easy and fun to make for either 4th of July cookouts or even parties just think in miniature terms and I know you will create your own sliders and have a lot of fun doing it!
