Excellent BBQ
Pit cooked BBQ. The owner Paul Johnson got this right. This small BBQ joint located out in Ballground, Ga. is a prize. The name is Amos BBQ. The dining area is tiny, and I do mean tiny, about the size of a living room, but nice and cozy. They pit smoke their meat overnight, and you can really taste the strong smoked flavor.
I had a pulled pork sandwich, and Brunswick stew. The smoked flavor of the meat was so strong that you could even taste the smoked flavor of the pork in the stew.
The prices were excellent, and the menu had a good variety of selections. Beef, pork, ribs, hot dogs, chili dogs, and a excellent chicken sandwich.
The one thing that brought me here to start with was I was hunting at the Mcgraw Ford Georgia WMA, and was looking for a place to eat breakfast. The only spot around that served up a good hot breakfast was Amos’ BBQ. This place is on my list of breakfast hot spots. Sausage, bacon, steak, chicken, tenderloin, country ham, and hot link biscuits, even gravy, yes a southern boy’s heaven. Breakfast plates with all the fixins available also.
I understand that they you can even get an order of smoked turkey for the holidays, definitely going to have to remember that.
Directions:
From I-75 Marietta, take 575 towards Ballground to exit 27, exit and turn right, go to first intersection and turn left (there’s no road sign at this intersection, but its Ga. 515 / Hwy. 5)
Go a few miles, and turn right on (A.W. Roberts / Ballground rd. / Ga. 372 / Gilmer Ferry Rd) Yes it’s multiple road names, and confusing, but when you turn right here, the street sign says A.W. Roberts.
Then just go approx. 8 miles, and turn left at 369. Amos’s BBQ will be less than a mile on your left, at the corner of 369 and Hightower Trail.
