Angels are Singing: Nutella Egg Nog
After making Mint Julep mojito the other night and having more than half a bottle of Maker's Mark bourbon left, I browsed online for other cocktail recipes with bourbon and found this instead - amazing Nutella egg nog recipe.
The sweet mix of the lava of whipped eggs that makes the Egg Nog, then throw in some cream and sugar with some bourbon or rum and you may think things can’t get any better or sweeter than that. Well, until I found this recipe. The idea of adding Nutella to the recipe makes me wonder if it's a drink or a liquid dessert.
Tracing back the history and the origins of the famous Egg Nog brings us to the colonial days of America. If we take it literally, it’s a bowl of whipped ''Egg.'' It was served to clients in mugs, also known as Nogs, and from here on derived the name, Egg Nog. During those times, it was very common to throw in a bit of holiday cheer such as rum, to give it that little extra bite to foster warm holiday feelings and place everyone in a joyful mood. The south usually added Bourbon for adults, and they took out the Bourbon and added cream so children can toast along with the adults.
Although the basic recipe didn’t include that adult-only ingredient which is the alcohol, you can easily add a shot of rum or Bourbon right before you serve the Egg Nogs.
Now lets do this together through a simple recipe of the all time famous Egg Nog with the taste of Nutella.
- 1 Cinnamon Stick
- 1 Tbs. Vanilla
- 1 Cup of Sugar
- 1 Qt. Whole milk ( Don’t use those low fat or light milk, it's not just egg nog :D)
- ½ cup of Nutella
- ½ Heavy whipped cream for the topping
- 6 egg yolks, and don’t throw the whites, they can be used for other recipes
- 1 Nutmeg for the garnish
How to Make It
Those were the ingredients you need. For the basic detailed steps to make the Nutella Egg Nog, it is as follows:
1.Use a large Pan, put in the milk, vanilla and sugar and heat them on medium to high heat before the boiling point and keep stirring.
2.Take the pan away from the heat, and leave the cinnamon and the vanilla to infuse the milk with their amazing flavor after covering the frying pan, after 10 minutes remove the cinnamon.
3.In another bowl, make the egg yolks frothy yellow by whipping continuously.
4.Whip the milk with the eggs, then pour the mix into the pan.
5.Use medium to high heat but avoid cooking the eggs.
6.Don’t stop stirring while maintaining the heat, but don’t let it reach the boiling state.
7.Comes the time for adding the Nutella, keep stirring and melt the Nutella into the mix.
8.Take it away from the heat and leave it to cool.
9.Cover the mixture with plastic and leave it in the refrigerator for 10 to 12 hours.
10.Make sure to add sugar and add cream before you serve your Nuttela Egg Nog.

If you want to add some cocoa sugar rim on your Egg Nog Mugs:
- Mix 1 tablespoon cocoa with 2 tablespoons sugar
- Pour that mix into a flat pan
- Dip the rim of every cup you have to a glass of water or corn syrup
- Then into the pan with the cocoa sugar.
