Apples , Apples Everywhere I Look More Apples

As I walk a little closer I am not prepared for what I am about to see

Apples on every tree

Apples that cover the ground in piles after piles

Apples falling from the sky

What is the apple of your eye ?

Is it a crisp Macontosh or a juicy Delicious

My personal favorite a Gala

So so good and what a wonderful flavor in every bite

The trees are all color marked for easy picking which were Macintosh, Gala, and Empire

Sorry the pink and white are not ready yet but there are so many to choose from

Some names I never heard of ?

If you are like me you will have a bag filled high

If your like my wife you will have ideas of cooking apple crisp

Maybe an apple pie or homemade apple sauce

If your creative like my neighbor a counter filled with apple butter and other apple surprises

I just love apples

So I couldn't wait to get home and give my apples a quick wash

In the sink they rose high above the counter just touching the ceiling would be my guess

Then off to peeling them one by one

Don't worry

Bring out the apple peeler tucked way in the back of the cabinet

Just waiting for this day to arrive

I had to try cutting them by hand with a pearing knife and after four apples I was appled out

The hand peeler saves time and has very little waste

So before you know it

The first bag of apples started to disappear

Into four new piles it was clear

One with cut up peelings that I keep niblbing on

I keep trying to think of ways to use them because they taste so good

Then there is one bowl of cup pieces that were arranged in rows

Very soon two more piles of cut up apples filling the bowls to the rim

Ready for the first recipe and begging to be eaten

Then there are the throw aways that consist of the cores and any bruised spots that could be used for a compost

But I can't tear myself away from the eating to do anything else

Bite of this piece and a bite of that piece

I learned that apples keep longer if they are refridgerated

For those who just want to have an apple as a wonderful snack

As I hear my wife scream

I wonder what could it be

As she squeezes in the new apple crisp in the refrigerater and another one in the oven

What is the problem ?

I have no room

The apple sauce is on the bottom and all the apple peals you saved (for God knows what)

Are taking up too much space

What is this ?

Other apples that I juiced up

Now honey is this neccessary?

Don't we have more than enough

What happens if we got the bushel

We would be having apple pancakes for breakfast and ham with sliced apples for lunch and for dessert

You guessed it apple turnovers and apple spice cakes

Easy does it apple killer

You wanted them just as much as me

O.k. I will help clean up the mess and make room in the refridgerator

See we had the room

Now just look at them apples

My mouth is still watering

What a day

We went to a local apple orchard and met two new owners

They were friendly and delightful

Sharing apple stories and apple tips

I will have to tell you those another time

Two hours later we headed home

I am busy now cutting into the apple crisp topped off with a bow of whip cream

I might even come back tomorrow to buy another bag of apples

When I dream of more apple recipes to make while I sleep tonight

This year was a great year for apples and last year was disappointing because of a late frost that killed the buds

Don't forget to go apple picking and have some fun with the whole family

You can even take the lazy way out and get the drops (apples that have already fallen from the tree)

They look real good and are half price

Then there are some apples already picked that shine in every direction from a basket or on the counter

They are also ready to go to that special someone who loves apples the way we do

I will be back year after year I am sure of that

With more apples that I can even count

I have gone on my first apple picking adventure
