Tested recipes are always the best, and these have been a hit at several parties. These are my best vegetarian party recipes.

Mini Dogs & Kraut

These are delicious if you love sauerkraut and hot dogs. Once my husband had his work buddies over for little party. One guy, who couldn’t keep himself away from this treat, said to my husband, “These are so good! It was so nice of your wife to make these for us since I know she doesn’t eat meat.” My husband chuckled and said, to his friend’s surprise, “There’s no meat in that!”

1pkg. of 8 of tofu hot dogs

1 can of regular sauerkraut

¼ cup brown sugar

16 brown and serve rolls

Preheat oven according to rolls package directions.

Remove sauerkraut from can, draining excess water. Mix the sauerkraut in a bowl with the brown sugar and let sit. Wash the tofu dogs, then cut each dog in half, crosswise. Then, cut each half in half, lengthwise. Slit the rolls in half, leaving you with 32 rolls. In each of these halves slit almost through the roll, lengthwise, leaving the two pieces attached. Drain more of the liquid off of the sauerkraut without leaving it completely dry, but more dry than wet.

To assemble: Place the slit rolls into a 9” X 13” baking dish. Keep your them fairly close together to prevent them from falling apart. Put a pinch of sauerkraut in the bottom of the roll slit, put a section of the hot dog on that, and top with another pinch of the sauerkraut. Bake according to package directions. Makes 32

These delicious vegan appetizers are easy to make, and every time I’ve served them, my guests have loved them. I think it’s because of the little surprise inside that they’re not expecting.

1 jar of pimento green olives

1 pkg. faux link sausage

1 container of better than cream cheese spread (Tofutti)

½ c. walnuts, chopped

½ c. sesame seeds

½ c. pecans, finely chopped

3 cans of 10-oz. refrigerated biscuits

Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.

About one hour before serving:

Grease 2 large cookie sheets. Cut each biscuit in half. Heat 5 sausage links slightly, then cut into 4 pieces each. Mold 1/3 of the biscuit halves around the sausage pieces. Dip a small area of the ball into water, then press into the chopped walnuts.

Drain 20 olives, then wrap them in the biscuit halves. Dip a small area of the ball into water, then press into them the sesame seeds.

Take 1 teaspoon each of the spread for the center of the remaining biscuits. Mold into balls and dip one end into water, then press into the chopped pecans.

Make sure all of your balls are sealed and place on cookie sheets seed and nut ends up. Bake at 450º for 6-8 minutes, until browned. Makes 48

Reheat at 450º for 10 minutes, wrapped in foil.
