Better Baked Beans
Big Pine Lodge - Secret Recipe Revealed
Big Pine Lodge Baked Beans
Brown ½ pound of hamburger, ½ pound chopped bacon, 1 medium chopped onion
Drain grease and transfer to a slow cooker.
Add a 16 ounce can each of lima beans, kidney beans and pork & beans (all drained)
Stir in ½ cup of white sugar and ½ cup of brown sugar
Add ½ cup of ketchup and ¼ cup of Open Pit Original Barbecue Sauce
Finish with 1 Tablespoon of mustard and 2 Tablespoons of molasses.
Stir well and let simmer all day in slow cooker. (Short on time? An hour in a 350 degree oven is fine.)
This is just the type of cold weather comfort food that appears on the table at Big Pine Lodge or goes to the frequent winter church potlucks. You can't make too much; the problem is usually that people take seconds and you won't have leftovers. Sad face here. I've made the whole recipe for just my husband and myself so I would have leftovers on purpose. All by itself a bowlful of these beans is a wonderful lunch.
