What is Diabetes?
Suffering from diabetes means your pancreas do not produce enough insulin or your body isn't using insulin properly. Insulin is made by pancreas. Your body uses this insulin to carry sugar from your bloodstream to your cells. Sugar is the fuel in your body that is needed for all the activities whether it's breathing, walking, running or exercising. The body changes the food you eat into a sugar called glucose.

When you have diabetes, the sugar, in your body isn't carried properly to your body cells this leaves too much sugar in the bloodstream. This is called hyperglycemia or high blood sugar. If left untreated, high blood sugar can cause a lot of damage to your body. Especially if your sugar is above 200 most of the time.

THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF DIABETES:

Type 1 and type 2 Diabetes .
Diabetes of type 1 can happen at any age, but generally it occurs in children and young adults. It is called juvenile diabetes. With this type of diabetes your body makes little or no insulin at all .Type 2 diabetes is the most common type of diabetes. It usually occurs to people over the age of 40 . With this kind of diabetes your body does not make enough insulin or your body cells resist the insulin your body makes.Balanced diet and exercise helps to treatment both types of Diabetes along with proper medication and diet prescribed by the dietitian .
.
Another type of diabetes is Gestational Diabetes in this the high blood sugar occurs only in pre natal stage to women who have never had diabetes. Though the exact reasons are not known yet, some women develop insulin resistance in their body at about the twenty-fourth week of their pregnancy, At this time it becomes difficult for their body to use insulin. This kind of Diabetes begins when the body is unable to manufacture and use all the insulin it requires during pregnancy. Without enough insulin, the glucose builds up in the blood is much higher than the normal levels. This surplus blood glucose passes through the placenta, which leaves a baby with high blood glucose levels which may cause a baby to store too much fat. Gestational Diabetes usually goes away once the baby is born .

Mostly women with gestational diabetes have healthy babies(there is little risk to fetus), it's just that the mother needs to be treated and cared until the baby has taken birth.Keeping blood sugar close to normal would prevent problems for both mother and baby.
