Cooking potatoes with family meals is tasty, quick and easy. Baked potato is my favorite. There are so many ways to prepare and cook them.

You can be creative with many different potato recipes. You can cook them with your family meals every night.

Ingredients for Baked Potato

  • 4 large potatoes
  • Cheese
  • Butter


  • Wash the potatoes with the skin on.
  • Cut out any major bad bits. Do not remove the skin
  • Punch holes in the potato with a fork on both sides
  • Place on a baking tray and in the oven on the top shelf
  • Cook for 1 hour and 15 minutes
  • To test they are done pierce with a knife. If it goes through easily then they are ready. If not put them back in the oven for another 10 mins.
  • Remove from oven
  • Cut across the potatoes with a knife
  • Turn to the right and cut again.
  • Squeeze open the top of the potato
  • Add a knob of butter into the opening
  • Add some grated cheese to each one
  • Add to a plate and serve with your meal

Baked Cheese Potatoes

Potato Slices Covered in Cheese and Baked in the Oven

This recipe is for potatoes cooked in the oven and covered in milk and grated cheese. It is very easy to prepare and can be put in the oven if you are already cooking meat.

This will save you money as well as time because you are using the oven only once so it makes economic sense.

Cook Time

  • Prep time: 10 min
  • Cook time: 50 min
  • Ready in: 1 hour
  • Yields: serves 4 people


  • 4 medium potatoes
  • Small block of cheddar cheese
  • Small amount of milk

  1. Peel the potatoes
  2. Wash under the tap
  3. Cut up into thin wide slices
  4. Place in a baking dish flat
  5. Add the milk slowly from the side. Milk should come up to half way
  6. Grate the cheese over the potatoes. Making sure to cover them all
  7. Place in the oven in the middle shelf.
  8. This dish is best made when you already have something else cooking in the oven.
  9. It takes 50 minutes to cook at a temperature of between 200 to 220 degrees.

Ingredients for Roast Potatoes Recipe

  • 4 medium potatoes
  • Cooking oil


  • Peel the potatoes
  • Wash them with cold water
  • Cut into small pieces. Four for each potato
  • Add a small amount of oil to a roasting dish
  • Place the potatoes in the dish
  • Cover with the oil
  • Add enough oil to reach a third of the way up to the potatoes
  • Place in the oven on the top shelf at 220 degrees
  • Cook for 1 hour and 15 minutes

It depends how to like them cooked for the time. If they are not crispy enough cook a little longer

New Potatoes in their Skin


  • Large packet of new potatoes
  • Small amount of butter
  • Fresh or dried parsley


  • Prepare 6 for each person
  • Wash the potatoes in a basin of water
  • Remove the worst parts of the skin by using a hard sponge or scraping with the edge of a knife
  • If there are any stubborn bits you can take them off by cutting with the knife
  • Put in boiling water in a pan
  • Boil for 25 minutes
  • Drain from the water
  • Add a small amount of butter and shake to cover all the potatoes
  • Mix in a small amount of cut fresh parsley or dried parsley

How To Make Homemade Chips or Fries


  • 4 medium potatoes
  • Cooking oil


  • Peel and wash the potatoes
  • Cut into large thick strips
  • Heat up the oil in a pot and place the basket inside
  • Test the heat of the oil by adding one chip. If it starts to cook straight away add the rest. If not wait until the oil is hotter
  • Give the chips a shake every couple of minutes to cook them evenly.
  • Remove when the fries are cooked the way you like them.
  • Either lightly brown or well cooked

How To Make Creamy Mashed Potatoes


  • 4 medium potatoes
  • Large portion of butter
  • Half a cup of milk


  • Remove the skin and wash in cold water
  • Cut up each potato into four pieces
  • Place in a pot and wash in cold water again
  • Add boiling water and cook for 25 minutes
  • Drain the water from the pot
  • Add the butter and milk
  • Use a masher or fork until you have a wonderful mixture of creamy mashed potatoes

How to Make Fried Slices of Potatoes


  • 2 potatoes
  • Small amount of oil


  • Peel and wash the potatoes
  • Cut them in half and add to a pot of boiling water
  • Cook for 20 minutes
  • Drain the water and turn out onto a plate to cool
  • Cut them up into medium slices
  • Heat up the frying pan with a little bit of oil. Enough to come up half way to the slices
  • Fry at a medium heat until brown. Turn over and fry on the other side
  • Remove from the pan onto a paper towel and gently pat to remove any excess oil
  • Serve with your meal

Great ideas for cooking potatoes. I love potatoes and cook them frequently. One of my favorites is new red potatoes, boiled with the skin on and then stir them with a little milk and lots of butter, salt and potatoes. One of my family favorites.
