The Tastes of Cambodia!

If you have never tried Cambodian food, you are missing out! Cambodian food is very colorful and flavors can be intense or very light. A lot of the food is inspired by the climate as only so much food can grow in 115 degree Fahrenheit weather! The rain season is short and so Cambodian farmers work very hard to maintain their crops.

This article is a collection of different Khmer Cambodian Recipes that I have created individually. I have decided to put them together in a digest, all on one page for easy reading and reference! I hope you enjoy these delicious and healthy recipes!

Southeast Asian Cooking Ingredients

Southeast Asian Cuisine is unique because of the native ingredients used in the recipes. Most of the ingredients can be found at your local supermarket or at most Asian Specialty Stores. Below is a link to an extensive list of ingredients used in Cambodian, Vietnamese, Thai and Laos cooking recipes. If you look at the chart you can find substitutions for herbs and spices that are harder to find.

Let's Start With Traditional Dipping Sauces!

Dipping Sauces are used for anything from a light and quick snack or added to a larger meal. We will look at three of the most common dipping sauces found in Cambodia. They take just minutes to make and are delicious! They can even be used as a Salad Dressing!

The following link will teach you how to make these 3 dipping sauces, step by step:

  • Green Mango Dipping Sauce

@pedrn44: Hi! I am so happy to hear that you loved this Hub so much! I am a very lucky man to have found my wife under the circumstances of where we grew up! As for the first photo, that was a picture I snapped after I was finished making the "Green Mango Dipping Sauce". I think I was dipping the "Nam Chow/Spring Rolls" in it. I liked the way the chop sticks looked on the plate with all the little spices! Try out any of the dipping sauces. They are quick, easy and delicious! I will add a description under the photo. Thanks for pointing this out! I appreciate your comment!

You have a beautiful wife. I really enjoyed looking at the photos of Cambodia. Yes curry dishes are enjoyed by many countries. My favorite is curry chicken and rice.

Hello flashmakeit! Thank you! I love all curry! I think my favorite is curried lamb but this is not popular in Cambodian culture, it's more Indian. I haven't had it in years! Thanks for stopping by! I appreciate your comment!

Hello pedrn44! The dipping sauces are really good and as I have stated before, quick and easy to make. If you make the spring rolls, be sure to try them with the dipping sauces; that's exactly what they are for! I hope you get to try them and I appreciate your comment and thanks for coming back. Let me know if you like them!

We prepare green mango chutney, coriander chutney and tamarind chutney.

The process looks more or less the same.

The dipping sauce will be definitely delicious

Voted up and sharing:)

P.S. I liked your wife's photograph. She is beautiful!

I've never ever gotten to try Cambodian food. I'm glad you linked the recipes....Asian food is not easy to cook in my experience (okay well good tasting stuff) but I'll give the dipping sauces a try:) It looks very healthy too!

J.S.Matthew profile image

J.S.Matthew 4 years ago from Massachusetts, USA Author

Hello again RealHousewife! Cambodian food is very unique from other Asian Cuisine. It is similar to Thai, yet different. Most of the recipes are derived from what is readily available and Cambodians can cook a variety of different dishes with limited spices and stock. The dipping sauces are easy and delicious and not bad for health. I hope you try them out and come back and let me know how you liked them. Thanks for another great comment!
