Crazy Creative Colorful Cookies

These fun, colorful sugar cookies are not only easy to make, but they will keep your kids entertained for a couple of hours. It's like playing with Play-Doh, but you get to eat your creative artwork when you're done. You can use these cookies for an "edible craft" afternoon or to make custom gifts for holidays and birthdays. The kids (and adults) will enjoy sharing their creativity though cookie art and edible creations. Kids can do self portrait cookies, reproductions of their favorite cartoon characters or anything they can imagine. Enjoy the process and enjoy the results!

Directions

  1. Take the Gold Medal flour, the Clabber Girl baking powder and salt; sift ingredients together and set aside.
  2. Cream together butter and sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat the eggs into the butter/sugar mixture one at a time.
  4. Stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually blend sifted ingredients into the butter/egg mixture until fully absorbed.
  6. Separate mixture into 4 even portions; cover the dough and chill in the refrigerator for 2 hours.
  7. Add ample amounts of Betty Crocker Classic gel food colors to each portion (blue, red, yellow, green) and kneed in for uniform coloring. Use plenty of flour to avoid sticking.
  8. On floured wax paper allow kids (and adults) to take a little bit of each color dough and make whatever shapes, designs, characters or anything that comes to mind. Mixing red and blue to make purple, yellow and red to make orange.
  9. Press separate colored pieces of dough together to help avoid separation during the cooking process. Make sure cookies are about 1.4 inch in thickness.
  10. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  11. Carefully place Crazy Colored Cookies on greesed cookie sheets.
  12. Bake 6-8 minutes.
  13. Cool and Enjoy!
