Crocodile Bread, Wedding Ceremony Symbol

Indonesian has rich of culinary. There is a food that is characteristic of the Indonesian it called crocodile bread. Comes from a region that is Betawi, in Java Island. According to the history of this bread, why it called “crocodile bread” because crocodile is the loyalty animal. Therefore, this bread use at wedding symbol. In order the couple who married to be faithful in long-term life. The size of the bread also showed the social status who gave it. If the bridegroom man is a rich family, he will give a big and length crocodile bread to indicate their social status. The bridegroom men should bring a pair of crocodile bread. Because the Betawi trusty, crocodile always shown in a white pair.I heard that another country have the similiar bread, like crocodile bread in Indonesia. But this is just bread that have story behind it.

Crocodile bread description: Generally made a pair, male crocodiles and a female crocodile. For female crocodile, there is a small crocodile in the back of this bread. With the size range of 1 meter which is perhaps the size of real animals. Width: 30-40 cm. There are various sense options of this bread. Like chocolate, pineapple, strawberry, and cheese. A pair of "crocodile" is brought by group of men bridegroom with 40 baskets

How to make bread crocodile

Ingredients:
• 1000 gr wheat

• 250 gr sugar
• 100 gr Margarine
• 15 gr salt
• 25 gr yeast
• 15 gr full cream milk powder
• 3 eggs
• 70 cc of cold water

• enough Dyes

How to cook:
• Mix all ingredients, stir until smooth.
• weigh the size of bread in accordance with the crocodile.
• Variations in compliance with the form of bread.
• Roast until cooked.

Tips:

- Comparison of head and body with the tail to make bread crododile is 1:3.

- End of fermentation is 30 minutes maximum, so that does not change the form of a crocodile

When I was  a young girl, we used to make French bread loaves to look like alligators or crocodiles, by adding legs and cutting the designs in. I never knew there was a cultural tradition like this.

This bread is absolutely hand made. As a traditional bread, it made occasionally. When the wedding ceremony held.
