How To Make Deviled Eggs That Look Like Baby Chicks; Perfect For Your Family Dinners

Source
4.1 stars from 14 ratings of Deviled Eggs That Look like Baby Chicks

Instead of having plain deviled eggs for your dinner, make these adorable little baby chicks. Everyone will think you are so clever, because they are so cute!

Before I start this article, I just want to say: there are many different ways to cook hard boiled eggs. My Mother taught me and I've always boiled eggs this way and it works for me.

Don't use fresh eggs right from the store. Better to use the ones that have been in your refrigerator for a few days.

Place the eggs in COLD water.

Bring the water to a boil. Turn off the heat. Cover the eggs. Leave the eggs alone until they are cold.

Cook Time

Prep time: 30 min
Cook time: 30 min
Ready in: 1 hour
Yields: serves 12 people

Ingredients

  • 1 dozen eggs
  • About 1/2 Cup Mayonnaise
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Salt
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Mustard
  • Two pieces Diced Black Olives, for eyes
  • One piece Pieces of Carrot, for nose
  1. Hard boil the eggs. Cut off the top of the egg. Do not cut in half. Carefully remove the cooked yolk. Mash the yolk with Mayonnaise and other ingredients. Using the cake decorator, fill the bottom part of the cooked egg with this mixture. Carefully replace the top part of the boiled egg. Replace the top of the egg.
  2. Decorate the exposed egg yolk mixture with sliced black olives for the eyes, and pieces of carrot for the nose.

Use A Cake Decorator To Fill The Whites

I used a cake decorator to fill the bottom half of the boiled egg with the yolk mixture. Using a star shaped tip, I pushed the mixture through into the egg white. This gives the chicks a look of having feathers.

I like pickle relish in deviled eggs, but this will plug up the cake decorator tip, so I omit the pickle relish.

Use Empty Egg Carton To Store Deviled Eggs

Save the empty egg carton to store and carry the deviled eggs. You can buy nice egg trays, but I don't have one. I should hint to my family to give me one for my Birthday or Christmas. The egg carton serves as a covered carrier, and it makes it easy to store the finished eggs in the refrigerator.

As you can see by my photos, I made this batch of deviled eggs that look like baby chicks at Eastertime. Now my family expects them at all our family dinners! So, don't make these only at Easter, but anytime for your dinners.

Everyone will love your little baby chicks!

Very clever! I'm going to tell my daughter about this idea, as well. My granddaughters are the perfect age to enjoy this.

By the way, I have an added tip for boiling eggs. Before you even put the water or eggs in the saucepan, dump in a S**load of table salt--a LOT--pretty much coat the bottom of the pan.

What this does, should any of the eggs crack during cooking, is prevent the egg white from escaping the shell and making a stringy, foamy mess all through the water, and a partially hollowed-out egg.

And no, it does not transfer through the shell, or make the eggs salty, even if one or two should crack.

(When they are done, I always remove them from the heat, dump the water, in the sink, refill the pan with cold running water, and leave the water running for a couple of minutes. Then, I change the cold water frequently until no more heat is being transferred to the water. Or, if I am in a hurry, I add a lot of ice on top of the eggs, then fill the pan with water. That, I find, helps them peel easier, and keeps the yolks from developing that unappetizing greenish coating.

Cheers!!

Well, I was going to vote up and share, but those buttons are missing... :-(

Good Morning DzyMsLizzy. How nice to see you this Mother's Day morning! Thanks for your tips on boiling eggs, sounds very useful. Oh dear, sorry you coulnd't find the share button with this new format. Look to the left of the Hub. You'll see "SHARE". It is rather small. Click on that and you will go to the old familiar share buttons. The vote buttons are just before the comment section. This format takes a little "getting used to". I'd hate to miss out on you sharing and voting! I'm so glad you like the idea of making deviled eggs look like baby chicks.

If these aren't the cutest eggs I've ever seen! Very clever. My entire family loves deviled eggs and I am the official deviled-egg-maker.

For big Holiday dinners, I make at least 3 or 4 dozen and they disappear like popcorn and peanuts. I am afraid if I made 3 dozen "baby chick" deviled eggs, I'd stand by the table, protecting them from the mad grabbers...like a MOTHER HEN!!!.....Don't touch! Leave my babies alone. UP +++

Good Morning, Bishop55. Why, thank you for the very nice compliment on my Hub on making deviled eggs look like baby chicks!!!

I hope I have inspired you to make some of these little chicks. Mary

How did you do those cool borders? :)

mary615 profile image

mary615 3 years ago from Florida Author

I use PicMonkey. You download a photo then crop it. You can then add the little "things". You just have to play around with it. I kind of like it, but I have a lot to learn on that.

It is a lot of fun to play around with, Mary

mary615 profile image

teaches12345, good morning! I have a new idea on deviled eggs. Martha Stewart soaks her boiled eggs in beet juice. That dyes the whites of the eggs a nice lavender color. Wouldn't that be pretty at Easter time??
