Easy Pretty Donuts | Doughnuts and How To Store Them.

Colorful Donuts

We all love doughnuts and these are so easy to make and look pretty when they're finished. They are a sweet and easy melt in your mouth treat. Donuts are fried dough that was brought to America by the Dutch. You can get cake doughnuts, glazed or filled doughnuts.

There is actually a national doughnut day, June 7 established by the Salvation Army in 1938 to raise money during the depression. Doughnut stores like Krispy Kreme and Dunkin' Donuts give away free doughnuts on this day. Many places donate their sales to The Salvation Army on this day.

The doughnuts in this hub are not homemade they are store bought.I used cake doughnuts. You can also use doughnut holes and add a lolly pop stick to them. I just add frosting in fun colors.

They look nice on an Easter table or any holiday breakfast table or brunch table. You can make as many of them as you want. I made the ones in the picture for Easter.

You can use any kind of food color you want I used the McCormick Assorted Food Colors and Egg Dye.

Christmas doughnuts use little snowflake or Christmas tree sprinkles, frosting colors in white, blue, green or red.

Halloween you can add little bats or pumpkins, frosting colors of orange, yellow or brown. Great for the 4th of July. Doughnuts can be used for birthday parties, colored in the person’s favorite color. At children's party cut them in small pieces easy for small hands and not so messy.

My mother once made doughnuts for us with canned biscuits. They were so good we loved them. Here is Paula Deen's recipe for canned biscuit doughnuts.

Dr. Robert Lustig of UCSF would hate this recipe but who cares.

Items you will need.

5 butter knives

5 small bowls big enough to put the top of the doughnut in

A platter to put the doughnuts on when finished

Ingredients

  • 1 container of vanilla frosting mix
  • 1 box of doughnuts Plain
  • 1 jar of sprinkles white nonpareils or Perfect Pearls
  • 1 box of food coloring

Instructions

  1. Add at least 5 different food colors to the frosting. Microwave frosting on high for maybe 10 seconds. Dip the top of the each doughnut in whatever glaze color you want.
  2. Once the frosting is microwave it will be a glaze. There is no cook time with the recipe, just prep time.

How to store doughnuts.

We live in a busy world and if you’re in a hurry and need something fast this is the fast sweet idea. Who doesn't like doughnuts?

If you buy store doughnuts and have a freezer no problem. They often go on sale here so it's always nice to stock up. When hubby is looking for something sweet I have it in the freezer.

Freeze the donuts first in the box. Then remove the frozen donuts and place them in a gallon freezer bag. It needs to be a freezer bag so that they won't get freezer burn. You can now take out one or two at a time when you want them. Keep cans of frosting handy and frost. They will thaw in no time. They are the ultimate indulgence.

Most anything sweet can be frozen and used later. With just the two of us if I make a cake I freeze half of it for later.

I think this idea you have for frosting the donuts in pretty colors is such a good one. I think it would brighten anyone's day and children would really love these donuts too. Going to pin them to my snack board.

Hello, I just wanted to inform you that I came across your photo and recipe posted to a woman's Facebook page with no link back to your page. She has her own watermark on it. I know most blogs will throw my comment in with the spam if I post a direct link, so I will just tell you that it was the Kat's Kreations on Facebook, and if you click on her photos and scroll down a ways you'll find your photo. She also did this with one of my recipes and one of my readers informed me of it.

Hi moonlake,

Your grandkids must love visiting you! I remember when I was growing up my mother occasionally made doughnuts and we always thought that the most fun was eating the doughnut holes. Ha! Voted up and thanks for bringing back those memories of mine. :))

Eddy, Their so good. Their good for us but our doughnuts were good. If you buy bad doughnuts than I guess they could be bad!!! Sometimes you buy a package of doughnuts thinking their going to be so good. Take them out of the package and their so dry you have dunk them in your coffee to be able to eat them.

Thanks for stopping by. You too have a great day.

Nice looking doughnuts. Do you use plain ones that you buy to frost, or make your own? Either way I suppose! Thanks for sharing!
