Erupting Chocolate Volcano Cake using a chocolate fountain

Spoiling my son

My son told me he wanted a volcano cake with stick men on fire and this is what I came up with.

I initially started with a chocolate fountain. It was my mothers so I couldn't take it apart and just use the parts I wanted so I built the cake around the fountain.

Then I coated it with chocolate. Using the icing as cement. Then freezing to harden the cake in place.

I had to use paper clips to give the stick men a sort of bone structure then molded fondant around it. The fire I used regular icing (orange) then topped the orange with yellow. Then took a toothpick to blend.

The lava is made up of white chocolate and food coloring.

I had also created a little gadget that would sit on top of the cylinder that the lava would flow out of to hold some dry ice. I wanted to also have the illusion of steam coming from the top. Unfortunately, it melted and the nearest place to get dry ice was over 50 miles away.

Also, it's a good idea to check your chocolate fountain to make sure it works before you get started.

Yes RTalloni, it's amazing the things you manage to "make happen" when they look at you with those eyes. Thank you for your comment.

What boys won't come up with, but they "know" moms can do it! :)

Thank you, I built this around a chocolate fountain. I had original designed it to have smoke from dry ice coming from the top, but the dry ice melted before the party. Trial and error. I explain details soon. I'm working full time and going to college so I don't have as much time on my hands as I use to.
