Recipe | Fish With Yogurt

Bengali name : Doi Maach

This is another mouth watering Bengali dish. It is also very simple to cook. You must try it!

INGREDIENTS ( Serves for 3-4)

  1. Rohu (Sweet water fish) Fish fillets cleaned ½ kg
  2. Yogurt 200 gm
  3. Turmeric powder ½ tsp
  4. Clarified butter 25 gm
  5. Cloves 2 nos
  6. Green cardamom 2 nos
  7. Cinnamon stick 1 no
  8. Bay leaf 1 no
  9. Black peppercorns 5 nos
  10. Chopped Onion 100 gms
  11. Ginger paste 1 tsp
  12. Red chilli powder ½ tsp
  13. Raisins (soaked cleaned with water) 25 gm
  14. Salt to taste

METHOD

  1. Marinate the fish fillets for half an hour with turmeric powder and half the yogurt.
  2. Heat the clarified butter and fry the fish fillets till it is almost done. Remove the fish and keep it in a separate dish.
  3. Add cloves, green cardamons, cinnamon stick, bay leaf, and peppercorn in the remaining clarified butter. Sauté for a while.
  4. Add chopped onion and ginger paste. Cook till onion gets brown.
  5. Add remaining yogurt, red chilli powder and a cup of water.
  6. Add fried fish fillets and cook in low flames for 10 minutes.
  7. Add salt and raisins.

Serve with fine rice.
