Help! My Partner is a Vegan

So what do I do when my partner is a Vegan?

If you are the vegan and you are living with a meat lover don’t worry, I will soon be writing an article on that too!

While vegetarians are quite common around the world now Veganism has still yet to take hold. However if (Like me) you have found yourself in a relationship with a vegan you suddenly have a whole lot more to think about, especially when going out for a meal! When you first find yourself with a vegan partner remember not to panic, you may make the odd slip up, end up in a restaurant with no vegan dishes or order the occasional item with some form of dairy! Usually though you will find your partner sees the humour in the situation and will not go for your throat. Laugh mistakes like this off, pretty soon you will stop making them!

If like me you enjoy cooking and want to make something special for your vegan partner try cooking up some great free vegan recipes. Just because they are vegan does not mean they will settle for salad all the time. There are plenty of tasty vegan alternatives out there that you can check out, some of which surpass meals from the average diet, even fro meat lovers such as myself!

Cooking for your vegan partner not only shows you care but it shows an interest in their choice, be it for health or sympathetic reasons!

It is important to remember however that veganism is not always just about food. Many Vegans believe that their refraining from All animal products extends to their clothing as well. If you are unsure as to how staunch and strict your vegan partner is then it may be a good idea to avoid all animal based products till you know where they stand!

When I first met my girlfriend the Vegan thing did worry me a little bit, I am personally a full on meat lover, how would I cope with a vegan girlfriend, especially when she is a vegan chef!?

The truth is that it has been surprisingly easy, she does not mind me eating meat and despite England not catering too well for vegans over here plenty of restaurants usually have something on the menu, and if they don’t ask nicely, they will usually provide something for you!

Where things have been a little bit different for us, so far, have been outside England. Take our recent trip to Ireland for example. We went to the beautiful city of Dublin. This amazing city has a lot to offer, apart from in the restaurants. Here we found that meat and potato mixes ruled the menu, good for me, not so much for her. For this reason I did not get to sample much of the Irish Menu, on the other hand it all seemed pretty similar to the English one, so not too much of a problem there in all honesty!

When I go over to Texas with her soon things will be easier. Despite Texas being the home of the steak America is very easy for vegans to live in. You have convenient access to all kinds of vegan dishes which simply do not exist outside the US. In all honesty when we get over there I think both of us will have to watch what we eat as we gorge ourselves on the food!

Great hub! I am a vegetarian and my partner is not! It has not really been a problem... I even get home cooked vegetarian meals often! My goal in the future is to go 100% vegan!
