I can't believe I'm out of....

Have you ever been in the middle of following a recipe only to find out that a particular spice you need is not in your cabinet? What do you do? Do you stop, run to the store and purchase the missing herb or spice? Or do you junk the whole thing because the spice or herb is an important part of the dish?

Don't be so hasty. There are ways of using what you have in the cabinet to save that dish. There are substitutes that stand alone or can be blended with other herbs and spices to save the day. I have gathered herbs and spices and their substitutes together so that you will have a list to help you next time you come up short. I hope you find it useful, it certainly has saved the day for me many times. Happy Cooking!

I like the content of this hub but the multitude of ads interspersed is a distraction. Consider cutting down the number of link boxes to one or two at the end of the hub and letting those control the traffic to your Amazon site.

Thanks for the advice McKBrew. I get such differing advice that it's sometimes hard to know which to follow. You certainly have a point, too much advertising can be distracting.

This is so clever and so useful. It seems I always have one or the other but not all of these or all of that. I will definitely book mark this. Rate up. Thanks a lot!

Thanks TheListLady. This hub actually came into being because I needed the information. I was tired of throwing away food, it starting getting expensive. I appreciate you visiting and thanks for the kind remarks.

I found this hub very useful since it is hard to always have the spices you need. I am growing thyme, basil, rosemary, mint and a few other herbs in my square foot garden. Thanks.

elayne, thanks for visiting. It's always nice to know substitutes for items that you may not have on hand. It sounds like you have a good selection of herbs in your herb garden.

A very interesting hub. There is definitely some useful information here. I am allergic to rosemary, so maybe I should try the substitute for it because generally I have to avoid anything with rosemary in it.

Joelipoo, definately substitute for rosemary. There are a few spice and heerbs that I need to substitute. It really works quite well.

Efficient Admin, I can't tell you how handy this list has been for me. I seem to be always forgetting to pick up some of the spices I need.
