There Is Something About Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup
When I have my opportunity to cook, I fix things that I know my wife and I will like. Something I love to fix on cold winters day, or really anyday, is chicken noodle soup. I like fixing homemade soup but it less frequently than I should. But when I do create it, you cannot help but say "mmm" and "yum". I really do not have a formal recipe of how much of everything I put into the mix, but I will go off of memory.
I start off with some fresh carrots, celery, onion, a big can of chicken broth, and some of my favorite spices like basil, garlic, and oregano. I usually fix this in a crockpot. When it comes to the chicken, you can use your own judgment. I have made my homemade chicken noodle soup with chicken breasts along with thighs and legs. I like to boil the chicken to take some of the fat off the chicken but leave some of the natural juices, which I like to mix into the broth.
Noodles are the big key to any good chicken noodle soup. I personally like to homemade Amish style of noodles. There is a store in Springfield, that sells authentic Amish noodles made in the state of Illinois. Another way for great tasting noodles is to create noodles from scratch. My wife is very good at creating homemade noodles and the next time I make my chicken noodle soup, she will be in charge of the noodles.
I had an interesting twist with the chicken for the soup. I used a lemon pepper flavoring for the chicken and it tasted great. Any sort of spices enhance the flavor of the chicken in the soup.
I love eating a good homemade chicken noodle soup. There is something about chicken noodle soup that comforts you. Chicken noodle soup is a food that is good all year round. You may not crave chicken noodle soup in the summer months as you would in the winter months.
The four important ingredients are the chicken itself, the noodles, the vegetables, and the spices. If you can fix these ingredients just right, you will have a delicious tasting chicken noodle soup. Trust me, I know.
