How To Make A Twinkie

Well the Hostess Company is going out of business and people on people are buying Twinkies at lot! If you go to a store, you might see a person with a shopping cart loading with Twinkies and other things the Hostess Company use to make.

However, you do not need to be sad about the Twinkies because you can make them yourself and it is not that hard.

This is not my usual hub, but my daughter dared me to write it so I did!

How to make a Twinkie!

Twinkies

2 cups flour 3 tsp. baking powder 1/4. tsp salt 1/2 cup unsalted butter 1 cup sugar 2 large eggs 1 Vanilla extract 1 cup milk

Pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees and then sift the flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl and then set it aside. Then take a large bowl and beat the butter and sugar together until fluffy and pale. Then beat in the eggs, one at a time. ( Put each one in for one minute before you put the next one it.) Slowly add the flour and the milk. Keep beating until silky and smooth. The very last thing is to add the vanilla.

This part is going to sounds nuts, but it will save money and it really works! Take a regular baking sheet and put it down. Next, take a bottle of spice and wrap some tin foil around it. Take out the bottle of spice, the piece of tin foil should look like a very tiny bathtub . Then tighten the edges of tin foil to make sure it is tight.

Cream Filling

1/4 shortening 1/4 cup margarine 1 cup sifted sugar 2 tsp. vanilla Beat together the shortening and margarine until soft and fluffy. Slowly put in the sugar, and the vanilla. Beat until little peaks that look like little mountains start to form. Then put the icing into those little tubes that a lot of people use to put icing on cake.

Bake your Twinkies for about 15 minutes. Let your Twinkies cool. Next take the tube and turn over your Twinkie, and put the end of the icing tube. The stab the bottom of the Twinkie in three spaces, try to poke and make a little space. The last thing you should do, is to take the icing and put it into the Twinkie.

Then eat and enjoy!

Please look at the video below. This will show how to make twinkies, and they look delicious!

Believe it or not I have been thinking about putting my moms Twinkie recipe here! I have thought about it a lot since the Twinkie news. I need to fix it. It is just one big one but I remember it was really good. I will try yours too and see how they compare. Yours sound good and more original of course.

Hi Michele, isn't it rewarding to listen to your own daughter ?! It certainly is. Thanks to your daughter and to you too. You have " saved " many souls ...

We might not " try" your receipt for simple reason : they are available in Canada uninterrupted, Eh ?

Michele Travis profile image

Michele Travis 4 years ago from U.S.A. Ohio Author

Hmmm....you can get them in Canada and not the U.S? Oh, well we can still make them. Next time my daughter can make them :)

Thank you so much for your comment. As for saving souls, you have "saved souls" your comments are wonderful and full of information people need to know.

God bless you.

Great hub Michele! I use to eat twinkies all of the times but haven't in a good while. Just the other day after I heard the news I saw my work's vending machine selling one and I rushed to my desk to get some change, but it was gone by the time I got back...LOL Well, it's good I can refer to your hub in case I want to make one from scratch!

Voted up

John

Thank you John. I made some this morning. My daughter loves them. They were pretty easy to make. It was kind of fun, but not having eaten them for so long, I don't know if they are real or not. Hope they are :)

The great thing about a homemade Twinkie that you are sure that it's freshly baked, and you can add other flavorings if you want to. Great hub. :)

iguidenetwork Thank you very much for your comment. My Twinkies are gone now. But, adding other flavors is a great idea.

Thank you for that comment. ( Chocolate would be a very good one)

Hopefully, this recipe has more nutritional value than those nasty ones that they sell in the packages.

Sounds like a great way to recreate the old fashioned sweet. I do belive negotiations are in process to bring it back again in some fasion. I am putting together a hub on this as well -- my hubby had to make them as a tribute! I will link your hub to mine when I post it later this week, if I have your permission.

Thanks Lipnancy, I don't think it has any nutritional value. It is pretty much just made of sugar. Lol....

Funny how things have evolved. Now they are all gone! But you have given hope to Governor Chris Cristie (just joking) and some baby boomers that were brought up with it. Great recipe and easy to follow. The video "tops the cake." Thanks so much for accepting your daughter's challenge.

Thank you Lord De Cross they were pretty good. But, making them took a little time and I am not the best cook in the world, lol. At least my daughter loved them.

Hi! thanks for the recipe and video!.. I'm not a baker or butcher or guard of the kings palace so to speak.. but I have ate a few of the twinkies in my lifetime.. I guess I already dealt with the loss of Twinkies and decided to switch to "zingers" but I always only at the lemon zingers, .. now I am curious about the strawberry ones.. would you consider using your research to check them out?/ you know if you don't. then I will have to! ha.

what kills me is the shortening, margarine and sugar.. could they have thought of any other healthy ingredients? oh well.. they are for the sweet people of the world, right?

Michele Travis profile image

Michele Travis 3 years ago from U.S.A. Ohio Author

Nope, twinkies are not healthy. If they were, they would not taste good:)

Next I am going to try the cup cake kind. But, after Christmas.

Michele Travis profile image

lol, no, this one is ok, I have a lot of weird ones. I am going to make ho ho's. I have the ingredients. Just haven't put them all together yet.

Maybe tomorrow.

Yep, I sorta looked around and some did indeed appear..........different. :p

You have me hungry now. Considering making some cinnamon spiced pecans myself since I have a few pounds I need to do something with. I can only eat so much pecan pie!

Homemade Twinkies are probably much more healthier than the ones you used to buy at the store! At least we know the ingredients right? LOL

Michele Travis profile image

Michele Travis 3 years ago from U.S.A. Ohio Author

Efficient Admin, I don't think either are really healthy. But, they do taste good. Thank you very much for helping laugh too, I needed that today:)
