Eating Pizza in the Philippines is very different from eating pizza in Germany. The German pizzas are very authentic Italian pizzas. No wonder, there are lots of Italian people living and working in Germany. Besides that Italy is a neighbouring country of Germany in Europe.

Pizza has reached Philippines too, as there are lots of Filipinos working abroad. Through globalization, pizza has become a worldwide cuisine. However, Filipinos have established their own taste of pizza. Filipino pizza taste a bit sweet as the tomato sauce for the pizza as well as for the pasta are sweetened.

You may wonder why this is called Filipino style pizza. Filipinos are fond of eating beef loaf and those red colored hotdogs. No celebrations like children's birthday parties without these food besides chicken joy and hamburger from McDonald's.

Tips

1. Use fresh herbs if possible as they are much better than the dried ones. You can also use dried pizza spices.

2. You don´t have to use Del Monte brand of tomato sauce. Any tomato sauce will do as long as it´s in good quality.

3. If possible use fresh pineapple for this recipe.

4. You can use garlic and onions for the pizza sauce if you wish.

5. You can use any kind of cheese like Gouda, Mozzarella or Eden cheese when you are living in the Philippines.

6. You can bake this into 3-4 rounds of pizzas instead of baking in an oven tray.

7. Baking this pizza in an oven tray is not only good when you plan to have kids birthday party but it´s also good when you have a family bonding or your friends come to visit you at home.

Baking this pizza was fun although I have baked this just 6 times. It was not the first time that I have made this pizza dough as this was my basic dough in making Italian tuna or salami pizza. I was always successful in baking this Filipino style of pizza that I thought I would like to share it with you. This pizza has a thick crust but soft inside. It´s just the way I like it.

Below are 2 You Tube videos I have used to give you a helpful visual aid on how you can make your own pizza at home. I hope it will help. Good luck!

Delicious! I would skip the hot dog/beef only because I'm a vegetarian. But I can add other veggies. Great instruction and photos. Thanks so much!

This certainly looks interesting. I love anything pizza and would be willing to try this. What is beef loaf? I'm not sure I can find it. Would that be like ground beef?

Thelma Alberts profile image

Thelma Alberts 2 years ago from Germany Author

Hi Victoria Lynn!

Yes, it´s a ground beef loaf which is canned here in the Philippines. When I´m in Germany I usually used sliced beef burger or corned beef instead. I hope you´ll try this. Thanks for dropping by. Have a nice day!

Are those red hotdogs you mention here spicy? This looks interesting and I like to try new foods like this. Something a little different and being Filipino makes it all the more intriguing. I really enjoy your hubs where you share recipes and traditions of the Philippines. Sharing this with followers in case some of them are like me and love the adventure of trying new foods.

you pizza is making me hungry. Gonna make them tomorrow. But i don't have tomato sauce. What else can i use as the sauce?

Thelma Alberts profile image

Thelma Alberts 24 months ago from Germany Author

Hi Au fait,

No, the hotdogs are not spicy. Those were the Filipino hotdogs Filipino kids love to eat. I have tried making this with choriso, a spanish sausage and it was delicious, too.

Thank you for your wonderful comment and for sharing this to others. Good luck to your food adventure. Merry Christmas and a happy New Year 2015 in advance. Take care.

Thelma Alberts 24 months ago from Germany Author

Hi peachpurple,

I am hungry too looking at this photo. LOL! If you have no canned tomatoes you can make your own tomato sauce. That is if you have tomatoes. Ah, wait. Why not try catchup? Spread on the dough. I think it will do.

I have tried putting catchup on a slice of bread and spread it in that bread as a mini pizza and it was yummy . Advance Merry Christmas and a happy New Year 2015.

I have always enjoyed pizza, and actually remember eating this kind of pizza 30 years ago when I lived in Taiwan for a year with my family. We had a Filipina maid for a short period of time, and I recall that on one occasion she made a pizza similar to the one in this hub for our enjoyment. Voted up and sharing with HP followers and on FB.

Hi Paul! I am glad to hear about that. 30 years ago, pizza was not yet popular in the Philippines. Hi Thelma, I could eat pizza every day of my life. This pizza looks awesome. I'm not sure what beef loaf is though, do you get it in the deli with the lunch meats? Also, I am not too fond of sweet sauce, but otherwise I would really love this pizza. I also like a thicker pizza like this one, I love biting into the thick pizza crust. Thanks for sharing this type of pizza.

Blessings to you.

Thelma Alberts profile image

Thelma Alberts 20 months ago from Germany Author

Hi Rachel! Me too but I could not as it might make me sick. LOL! Beef loaf is a Filipino sausage. You can use any kinds of sausage you want. Choriso, a Spanish sausage can be a substitute to it but sometimes I used salami. The taste is also good. I am not fond of sweet sauce too when making my pizza. I prefer the authentic Italian one. Thanks for your comment. Have a nice day!
