Shoo-fly Pie is a classic molasses pie inspired and created by the Pennsylvanian Dutch German, originally made by the Amish to attract the flies and keep them away from the many other thanksgiving pies cooling on the window sill. Hence the name 'Shoo fly" and a new pie was created.

Eventually Classic Shoo-fly Pie was given a greater honour and took its place among the more commonly known pie desserts and quickly became a Thanksgiving favourite.

One for my family ,and a second pie to give as gift to my neighbor. Everyone remembers the warm ,delicious , flavorful dessert fondly!

Eaglekiwi profile image

Hi Nell,

Yes the name is quaint lol ,and Im sure it must be the same as your Treacle tart. My Grandmother was Scottish and I seem to remember her making something with Molasses or Treacle, which we thought was the best thing on this planet.

Thanks again for your comments.xox

Delicious! I remember when our family went to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, as a kid, we tried this at an Amish restaurant, but I honestly don't remember the taste of it. Might have to try it out as an adult with your great recipe. :)
