How to Get Fruit to Ripen Faster

Is it Ready Yet?

Have you ever gone the supermarket and gotten your favorite fruit, or bought a case of mangoes for a bargain price only to find they aren't ripe yet? If you are tired of waiting what seems like weeks for for fruit to ripen to it's soft, juicy, sweet delicious state, and you try cutting into an unripe mango you'll find while it is edible, you don't want to eat it. It would likely be tough and tasteless, not sweet and mouth-wateringly juicy like a mango should be.

How Long Can You Wait?

If you can wait a few days (around 2 days) for your fruit to ripen, you can ripen some of the hardest fruits by keeping it in a very hot area. Not it's cooking hot, but still you want the fruit to be very warm for it to soften into a juicy sweet ready to eat state. The ripening time for different fruits will vary greatly, and not all fruits will ripen faster so easily like apples and watermelon. Bananas, kiwi, mangoes, cantaloupe, etc will all ripen faster this way though.

Can't Wait?

If you must have your favorite fruit right away, you just can't wait even half a day for your fruit to ripen. Then simply warm it up in the microwave for a short 10 seconds, do this in intervals until it is ready. If you like your fruit cold then afterwards put it in the freezer for a few minutes and then eat and enjoy!

Good hub! Another way to get bananas to ripen faster is to put them in a brown paper bag and keep them in a dark place away from sunlight. Voted up and useful.
