How To Preserve Green Beans

Blanching

Step 1 in preserving fresh from the garden green beans is to blanch. You will need a saucepan, water and trimmed green beans.

Add 1- 2 cups of trimmed green beans to a gallon of boiling water. Then add a teaspoon of salt and let boil 3 minutes. When they are done blanching they should be crisp (like steamed veggies).

Cooling

Once the green beans are blanched they need to chill to stop them from cooking any further.

Freezing

Last, you place chilled green beans in freezer bags and lay flat in the freezer to freeze. Tip-I place a meal's worth in each freezer bag.
