How to Make Chicken Burritos
Home- made chicken burritos are a great alternative to regular beef burritos. They are especially great for those who love Mexican food but don’t eat red meat. They are also easy and inexpensive to make and kids love them!
To get started making chicken burritos, you will need:
· 3 boneless skinless chicken breasts
· 1 pack of flour tortillas
· 1 can refried beans
· 1 pack taco seasoning mix
· 1 tomato
· Shredded cheese
· Taco sauce or hot sauce
· Sour Cream
To start, gather 3 defrosted boneless, skinless chicken breasts and place them a large, greased skillet on medium-high heat. Once the outside of the chicken breasts start to tan, turn the stove down to medium low and continue cooking until they are white all the way through.
Place the refried beans in a small pot and cook on medium until warm. Meanwhile, slice or shred the chicken breasts into the desired size you wish for your burritos. (Some people like bigger chunks of chicken but other like shredded chicken).
Place the sliced or shredded chicken pieces back into the skillet and add ½ cup of water and 1 package of taco seasoning mix. Stir, cover, and cook on medium low for about 5 minutes. While the chicken simmers, dice one whole tomato.
Finally, heat the flour tortillas in the microwave for 10-15 seconds. Sprinkle the shredded cheese on the tortilla. By putting the cheese on the bottom, it will melt faster. Then spoon on the desired amount of chicken and refried beans. Next add diced tomatoes, taco or hot sauce, sour cream, and guacamole to taste.
After adding all of your topping, fold up the 2 ends of the burrito. Then roll the burrito up and enjoy!
