Kids LOVE Cupcakes! Cupcake Decorating Ideas, Cupcake Recipe Books, Unique Cupcake Pans!

Cupcakes are more popular than ever! They are fun to make and better yet, fun to eat. Even brides to be are getting in on the action and are choosing to serve cupcakes rather than traditional wedding cake.  There's just something sweet (and fun) about a little cake covered with tons of fluffy frosting. Whether you prefer a fancy, gourmet cupcake or a simple chocolate cupcake iced with canned frosting, cupcakes are here to stay and loved by many (especially kids!).

When it comes to cupcakes, my wife is an expert! She LOVES to bake cupcakes and if she wasn't watching her figure, would probably eat them every single day! She even bakes dog friendly cupcakes and has come up with several recipes. If you are interested in baking some cupcakes for your dog, please visit Bunny Roo Beagle and check out the recipe section! Your dog will thank you. Now back to the subject at hand…cupcakes for humans!

When it comes to planning a kid's birthday party, in my opinion, cupcakes are the ideal choice. There are many types of cupcakes to choose from and the best thing is they are very easy to incorporate into your party theme. When it comes to cupcake supplies…well, there are MANY! From fancy cupcake papers to cupcake tree stands…stores (and the world-wide-web) are loaded with a variety of cupcake merchandise. Trust me, I know as my kitchen cabinets are loaded with cupcake papers, sprinkles, piping supplies (for fancy icing) and of course, food coloring! There's even a cupcake pan that allows you to make one HUGE cupcake! It is called the Big Top Cupcake Pan and it is made out of silicone. Now my wife has not purchased this giant cupcake pan yet…however, I'd bet money that she is thinking about doing so! Wilton, one of the largest cake decorating supply companies in the United States, also sells a giant cupcake pan. It is similar to the Big Top Giant Cupcake Pan, however, it is not made of silicone.

Purchase These Great Cupcake Books!

As for cupcake recipe and decorating books…well, my bookcase is full of them! Below are a few of my wife's favorites!

If you are new to the world of cupcake decorating I suggest that you start with a simple cupcake recipe and decorating idea. Also, there's nothing wrong with using store bought cake mixes rather than a "from scratch" recipe. Go with what works best for YOU! The first time my wife made cupcakes for a birthday party, she tried to make dog cupcakes that were incredibly detailed, not to mention difficult. Needless to say she bit off more than she could chew and the cupcakes didn't look like dogs (at all). The moral of this cupcake story is to start simple and move on to more difficult cupcakes once you get the hang of the decorating process.

Cupcakes are a wonderful alternative if you want to stray from the regular old birthday or party cake routine. It is also important to remember that practice makes perfect! The more cupcakes you bake and decorate, the better they will be! If you are really into cupcake decorating and want to become a cupcake expert…it would be a good idea (not to mention FUN) to enroll in a local cake decorating class. If you would like to check out some of the birthday parties that my wife has planned over the years…please do so! Simply click on the party you are interested in below. Now go bake a cupcake!

Anyone out there tried to bake the cupcake icecream cones? If so, let me know how they turned out! I'm curious.

Wow! My mom did cupcake ice cream cones when I was little (I turned 50 last week). Brings back some memories!

She would also fill ice cream cones with pudding and when you got to the bottom there was a marshmallow inside. (The marshmallows started as a way to keep ice cream from dripping out the bottom of sugar cones - they used to be bad about leaking.)
