Custom Outdoor Kitchen with Lazyman Built In BBQ Grill.

We re-built this customers grill island after demolishing the old one. The only thing we kept is the Lazyman model LM 210-28. It was still in good shape after ten years of grilling so we built the new outdoor summer kitchen around the old grill.

Lazyman barbeque grill history.

The Lazyman gas grill began as the Chicago Combustion Corporation in 1932. In 1939, the company introduced its first grill that was a gas-fired broiler which the owner, Louis McGlaughlin displayed at the World's Fair in New York City. This was a commercial unit originally but because of the charcoal flavors it produced, it set the stage for the company's future outdoor gas barbecue grills. In the 1950s the company was selling thousands of grills and ultimately changed its name to Lazy Man, Incorporated. The company has always been a family-owned business, so the pride that goes into each unit is unmatched.

Lazyman models

One of the things that sets the Lazyman grills apart is that everything on the units, even the nuts and bolts are manufactured in their Chicago facility. This gives them more control over the quality of all the parts that are used. It is harder to keep a tight reign on quality when the parts used come from all over of the world. This makes the Lazyman grills unique and sets them apart from the competition.

The Masterpiece Series is a very popular model that is freestanding on wheeled carts. Some of the features of the Masterpiece includes:

  • Professional grade stainless steel used throughout

  • Stainless steel hood that is polished

  • Rear connection for natural gas or propane with internal gas pipes

  • Individual burner control, cooks food more evenly

  • The LM210 series comes in 28-inch to 40-inch units and four different burner arrangements

  • You have the ability to arrange the units in 10 different configurations

  • Sold completely assembled, there is no assembly necessary

  • The units come with a 5 to 10 years standard warranty

If you desire to have a grill that is built-in to stone or any other material, the built-in series makes a great choice because it offers very useful features.  The Lazyman 210 series barbecues included the 210-28 three burner gas grill and the 210-40 gas grill.  The 210-30 is a double side burner that is different from most built in barbeque competition because the side burner range tops are side by side instead of front and back.

  • Professional grade stainless steel

  • 750 degree thermostat

  • Cooking grates are made of stainless steel, which makes cleanup easier

  • Stainless steel slide-out drip pan that makes clean up easier

  • The units have the individual burner control for even cooking

  • It is fully assembled when you purchase the unit and ready to be installed into whatever area you have designed for it

  • Also comes with the company's standard 5 to 10 year warranty

The Lazyman barbecue grills all come with a variety of optional accessories and add-ons that make grilling easier. In addition, the company offers barbecue renewal packs which include many Lazyman replacement grill parts. Cooking grates, permanent coals, stainless steel dividers, burner tubes, flash tubes, stainless steel broiler body, and drip pans are all included in a renewal kit. By replacing some of the parts that have been used over a number of years, your Lazy Man Grill will look as good as new. When you use some regularly, even with the best care, eventually, it begins to look dingy, so the company made a way for your to restore your grill to new-like condition.

Lazyman barbecue grills make an excellent choice for a family barbeque because of the many features it includes as well as the conveniences.  The grills look very sharp in their solid stainless steel casings. When you need a heavy-duty barbecue grill that you can use on a regular basis the Lazyman grill certainly has a model that will work perfectly for your family. Nearly all the parts on the grills are made in their own manufacturing plant, making it a very high-quality product due to their tight control over quality.

The most popular Lazyman bbq grill models are the LM 210 series models. Lazyman bbq grills ship with a flat stainless steel weather cover and do not come standard with a bbq hood. Although most clients do purchase the hood separately the bbq has to conduct enough heat at the cooking surface to grill food at the grates without building up heat in the air trapped inside a barbeque hood. Lava rocks and ceramic broquettes served this function.

The original 210-28 and 210-40 were different than we see them today. The lm 210-28 gas grill is 28" wide and has three pipe burners mounted front to back. The lm 210-40 is 40" wide and has four pipe burners. Originally lava rocks were simply dumped into the Lazyman barbecues over top of the grill burners. However, even high quality American made 304 stainless steel which is made to be abused outdoors needs oxygen to protect itself. The lava rocks held grease and carbon from burning foods and gas and caused clogs in the burner ports; then the lack of oxygen and inability to clean the burners caused them to rust and corrode. The next model of Lazyman was the most popular in sales records. The lm 210-28 and the lm 210-40 were introduced with the addition of a stainless steel lava rock grid that kept the lava rocks off the burners and closer to the cooking surface. Then about five years ago the new Lazyman models stopped using lava rocks replaced by an interlocking ceramic layer of thin bricks. Recently Lazyman barbeque grills have changed again with the complete absence of any ceramic conduction and the addition of stainless steel plates that mount over the burners. This design is more like traditional barbecue grills and it is much easier to clean and to perform grill repairs.

Although somewhat antiquated the Lazyman bbq grill is a good grill. The grills are American made with real 304 stainless steel and good solid construction. The Lazyman does not compete with the Alfresco, Solaire, DCS, Lynx and other high end barbecues and does not compare to these high-end grills with all their technological features but the Lazyman is worth keeping if it is built in to an outdoor kitchen. At two thousand dollars with the hood it is difficult to justify purchasing a new one when so many better high end grills are available in that price range but most of the customer that I meet are not buying a new Lazyman bbq but repairing one. I do believe the grill s worth keeping and repairing at least twice. If a replacement is needed the 28" lm 210-28 is easily replaced with other 30" gas grills because of the newer design with a self-trimming flange for built in bbq grills.
