Tiramisu is delicious made a couple of days before you're serving time, it will make it even better.

If you do not have Kahlua, Creme de Cacao is delicious too. If you like, omit the liqueur and it is still really good.

If you are looking to lower the calories, use part-skim ricotta instead of mascarpone. This elegant and yummy dessert will pair with any meal. Enjoy!


  • 4 eggs, separated
  • 16-ounces mascarpone cheese, or ricotta cheese, mascarpone preferred
  • 16-ounces ladyfingers
  • 1-2 cups espresso
  • 6 tablespoons Kahlua
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1-ounce, 3.84 tablespoons, dark chocolate or cocoa powder, garnish

  1. Brew 2-3 cups of espresso or very strong coffee
  2. Allow the coffee to cool completely and stir in liqueur.
  3. Separate eggs, placing egg whites in a smaller bowl and egg yolks in a larger bowl.
  4. Beat egg white with an electric mixer until stiff peaks form. Do not over beat. Set aside.
  5. In the bowl with egg yolks, add sugar; beat until mixed. Add the mascarpone cheese beating until mixed and creamy. Fold egg whites into the cheese mixture.
  6. Pour ½-inch coffee liqueur mixture in a dish that one ladyfinger will fit into.
  7. Roll each ladyfinger in the coffee. Soak the cake, but not too long are it will be soggy and too little and they could be crunchy.
  8. After soaking each ladyfinger, layer in a 13-inch x 9-inch pan, cutting them to fit into the pan if necessary.
  9. When you have the one layer, spread half of the cheese mixture evenly over it and place the second layer of soaked ladyfingers over the cheese mixture, then finish with cheese mixture.
  10. Garnishes by sprinkling cocoa powder over cake or grated dark chocolate.
  11. Place tiramisu in the fridge for six hours before serving.


  • Freeze any leftovers.
  • You can replace Mascarpone with Ricotta to save calories.
  • Kahlua is a coffee-flavored liqueur
  • Creme de Cacao is a chocolate-flavored liqueur.
