Making A Real Italian Hero Sandwich

A properly made hero sandwich combines a careful selection of foods with complementary flavors. Use French or Italian bread-either a long or a round loaf. Split the loaf and butter both top and bottom halves. Put the filling on the bottom half and press the loaf together. Slice long loaves, cut round loaves into wedges.

Here are a few ways that I love to make different types of Italian Hero Sandwiches

Suggested fillings:
1. Spread the bread with a good layer of mustard-seasoned butter. Add a layer of thinly sliced skinned Italian sausage, layer of thinly sliced Provolone cheese and a few hot peppers.

2. Butter the bread halves. On the bottom half place a layer of thinly sliced mostardi frutti (available in jars) it is a mustard flavored syrup, a layer of prosciutto, a layer of cold cooked cotechino, a layer of thinly sliced salami, a layer of sliced Provolone and top with another layer of sliced mostardi frutti.

3. Butter the bread and on the bottom half place a layer of thinly sliced salami, a layer of sliced tomatoes, a layer of sliced Italian sausage, a layer of hot peppers, a layer of pepperoni and sprinkling of chopped Italian parsley.

4. Use a long loaf of Italian bread, split and buttered. Place first a layer of sliced onions and season with salt. Add a layer of sliced Provolone cheese, a layer of sliced Italian sausage, a layer of pickled olives, pitted, and a layer of sliced salami.

5. Use a long loaf of bread, split and spread with mustard-flavor butter, or with butter and mustard. Add a layer of sliced salami, a layer of sliced Gruye're cheese, another layer of salami, a layer of sliced hard-cooked eggs, a layer of sliced Provolone and a layer of prosciutto.

6. Use a long loaf of Italian bread Split the loaf, rub each half with garlic and brush with olive oil. Add a layer of Italian tuna fish (packed in olive oil), a layer of sliced onions, a layer of Italian anchovies, a layer of hot peppers, a sprinkling of chopped Italian parsley, a layer of sliced tomatoes, a sprinkling of chopped fresh basil and a little lemon juice topped with pitted olives.

For me these are y main go to sandwiches if I want a real hero sandwich so pick out one and try today I know your going to love it.....Happy eating.

There is nothing like a homemade hero, as long as the person making it knows how to do it the right way.
