Most Essential Kitchen Utensils For Smart Kitchens

Unavoidable Common Kitchen Gadgets

Kitchen is the heart of a house. When there is a gathering in our house most of our guests hang out in the kitchen. We can contribute our own little ideas to enhance the magical atmosphere in our kitchen. From the time fire was found early men also started cooking. They used utensils made of wood, stone and other simple things available to them. But now kitchen tools, utensils etc have seen a rise in popularity. Here are some essential cooking utensils that play a vital role in our kitchens.

  1. Kitchen Knife
  2. Vegetable Cutting Board
  3. Lemon Squeezer
  4. Wooden Spoons and Spatulas
  5. Vegetable Peelers

Very Essential 5 Kitchen Utensils

1) Kitchen Knife:

A knife is the most essential tool in a kitchen and the best friend during the preparation of dishes. A good knife should be heavy. Now varieties of knives are available:-

  1. Chef’s knife: Largest knife in the kitchen.
  2. Paring knife: Knife most commonly used in the kitchen.
  3. Utility knife: Longer in size and used for slicing meat and cheese.
  4. Boning knife: It has a flexible blade to cut meat and bones.
  5. Bread knife: It is used for cutting sandwich buns.

Different materials are used for making knives. High carbon stainless steel knives are the most expensive ones. They don’t get stained and last longer. Ceramic knife is a new kind of knife that doesn’t need sharpening for many years. They are so sharp that it could be used only on a cutting board. There should be a ‘steel’ (round, long object) in your knife collection to sharpen your knives. Don’t forget to buy your favourite knife as soon as possible.

2) Vegetable Cutting Board

There are different kinds of cutting boards. Synthetic cutting boards, cutting boards made of wood or plastic etc. A cutting board should be kept apart just for the purpose of cutting raw meat, chicken, fish etc. Otherwise germs may spread through them.

  • Wooden Cutting Board : The best cutting board is a wooden one. It is really good for the long lasting of your knives. It should be washed and dried immediately. Small stains on it can be removed by either rubbing with lemon or salt. Rub it with mineral oil at least once in a month so that it won’t get spoiled quickly.
  • Acrylic Cutting Boards : It is the best option for cutting raw meat, chicken, fish etc. It won’t damage the knives very quickly.
  • Glass Boards : Even though glass boards are attractive it will make your knives dull.
  • Tip: Before I use any of my cutting boards I spread a paper beneath it to avoid sliding

3) Lemon Squeezer

It’s a very common kitchen tool. It’s used to extract lemon juice from lemon. This helps in separating the seeds too, which is too difficult while extracting juice with our hands. Once you buy one and start using it, you can’t avoid it in your kitchen. This helps us to make very pure lemon juice in a snap. The terrible truth of this gadget is that after buying it, it’s banished to the kitchen drawer and never used again.

Tip: A lemon squeezer can also be used to squeeze orange, lime etc. You can find attractive lemon squeezers by checking on Yellow Lemon Squeezer - Metal.

4) Wooden Spoons and Spatulas

Wooden Spoons: In my opinion it is the most useful tool in a kitchen that can be used for mixing, stirring etc. It’s very essential to use them in non stick cook wears to avoid them getting spoiled. Even though these spoons wear down very easily, there are some that are durable. I prefer a wooden spoon to a steel one because it can also take the heat.

Spatulas: Spatulas are used to blend or scrape the food from the bowl. Rubber and silicone spatulas are available. You should need a couple of spatulas in your kitchen based on what you cook often. You can also use spatulas for serving dishes

5) Vegetable Peelers

You can peel vegetables by using a knife. But using a peeler is easier and also safe. It does a cleaner and safer job. Only less vegetable will be removed while peeling with it. Even my six year old daughter peels potatoes very fast using it. There are various kinds of peelers that are very sharp and essential. Some big type of peelers can be used to peel larger vegetables. Though named as vegetable peeler it can also be used to peel many fruits. While selecting a vegetable peeler make sure that it fits your hand well. .

These are some kitchen gadgets that are of great use in any kitchen. They are all very simple and easy to handle equipments. Make the best use of them. They make cooking a wonderful experience

Quite an informative hub! I enjoyed the video. That induction burner is amazing. I like that it is portable and won't burn my hand.

Very good recommendations. I really need to use my vegetable peelers more. Any reason why you choose wood over silicon for spatulas and spoons?
