National S'mores Day is August 10. However, don't let this limit you to exploring numerous options for eating toasted marshmallows, creating s'mores, and making other s'mores recipes and items all year round. S'mores are perfect for all sorts of backyard parties and camping trips as well as weddings and other special events.

Classic S'mores Roasting

While you may be ready to switch up the classic s'mores experience for National S'mores Day or the next time that you're ready for a s'mores treat, there is nothing wrong with sticking to the traditional experience either. After all, what is there to improve? If possible, please seek out an opportunity to roast marshmallows over a fire in a backyard, at a campsite, or in another outdoor setting. Some people opt for s'mores makers or gas stoves, but neither of these options provides the same experience or flavor.

Switch Up the Ingredients

One of the simplest ways to have a s'mores variation is so switch up one or more of the ingredients. Instead of graham crackers, use another suitable cracker or cookie such as Vanilla Wafers. Why not split an Oreo cookie and put the chocolate and marshmallow in the middle? Instead of milk chocolate, use dark chocolate, chocolate with filling (i.e. caramel), or Reese's cups. Are you looking for a challenge? Make your own marshmallows. They may not toast the same as store bought marshmallows, but they will offer varied, rich flavors.

Desserts

There are more s'mores desserts than you ever would have imagined possible. This concept has exploded during the last five years. From cupcakes to bar cookies to ice cream, there is something out there for every dessert preference. I have included just a few options here, but you can search Pinterest or Foodgawker or do a regular Google search for many more recipes.

Drinks

Turn the amazing concept of s'mores into a drink. Most of the s'mores drink recipes out there are alcoholic, but there are a few great non-alcoholic options as well, namely hot chocolate or cocoa and milkshakes. Additionally, many restaurants that have extensive specialty drink menus offer dessert drinks that may include a s'mores choice.

S'mores Bar

A s'mores bar has become a popular choice for large outdoor gatherings, wedding receptions, and other special events. For an outdoor event, it is easy enough to have everyone toast their marshmallows over a large fire. For indoor events, many people opt to have smaller roasting stations throughout a buffet table. The more choices that you have for s'mores components, the more possibilities there are for finished desserts. In addition to the switching up the ingredients, some people offer toppings (i.e. chopped nuts, hot fudge sauce) and additional add ins, such as fruit.

Gift Sets

A s'mores gift set is a simple, inexpensive present for family, friends, and co-workers on minor holidays such as Halloween and Valentine's Day. If you have a party with a s'mores bar, take away boxes and/or s'mores wedding favors can fill out the theme nicely. Don't forget about packaging. A few personalized details can make all the difference.
