New York Bagels
NY Bagels
A little taste of my Heaven
So recently I took a trip to Long Island, NY where I had grown up. I went to visit my cousins. It had been awhile since I had been back. My parents sold their house on the Island and moved to Florida about 4 years ago so there has not been much reason for me to get back to often. I had left Long Island many years ago and moved to Florida to end up now in the country in Pennsylvania and the one thing you cannot find here is a good bagel. Well or any other food like you can find in NY for that matter. Dutch cooking really is not my thing and if you are from NY or grew up in NY you know what I am talking about.
So when I do get to visit NY the one thing I always have to get is Bagels. Bagels from New York are my Heaven. To me there is nothing better than a great tasting Onion Bagel with Scallion Cream Cheese from NY. OK so it is not the best on your breath, but it does not matter to me one bit.
I do not miss living there really, but I do miss all the good food. It is funny how every trip to NY consists of what places we will be stopping to eat - Bagels of course, Egg Sandwiches from the Deli, Pizza, My Favorite Greek Restaurant, The Italian Bakery for my favorite cookies and White Castle are always top on my list.
This trip I did not get to do them all, but I did get my Bagels, My Italian Cookies and White Castle.
The Selection
For me it is the Onion Bagel
There are so many choices of Bagels to choose from, but for me onion is my number one choice. If that was not available then next would be an Everything and then Garlic. Yup all the ones that make your breath stink.
I enjoy the Scallion Cream Cheese. My sister loves Olive Cream Cheese and my stepmother - well her favorite is Lox Cream Cheese. The Vegetable Cream Cheese is yummy too. Then they have some other choices that I am not crazy for like Blueberry and others. That is just not my thing.
So when at the bagels store we buy a dozen or so to eat while visiting and a dozen or so to bring home for later. I have a bunch in my freezer right now to last me a week or so.

So here I am in NY at the bagel store early in the morning with my cousin. I am of course armed with my camera as always. I looked like some crazy tourist. So I asked if they minded if I took some pictures while I was there and I told them why (I blog). They said they did not mind at all and told me how these were the best Bagels in town. I had never been to this Bagel store before so I really had to be the judge of that.
So they asked if I would blog the store name. So being originally from NY I said sure, but if you can give me a break on the cost. So would ya know when it came time to pay the owner disappears. Typical New Yorker!!! I guess I have the New Yorker left in me too; No Blog For You!!!
So as you can see there is no mention of the store or all the other pictures I took that morning. So were they the best Bagels in town? I would have to say no and only because they were not. BUT they were still very good and I enjoyed them just the same.

How great is that? Now I can order them anytime and so can you. If you have never had a NY Bagel you are missing out. If you know someone like me who loves them - surprise them with comfort food. How great would it be to open a box of fresh Bagels on Christmas morning from NY. I think I am going to have to buy me another present this year - no doubt.
Bagels for the Dogs
My Dogs love Bagels too. What I do is get them plain Bagels and let them get stale and hard. Then I give one to each of my 3 dogs to munch on vs. a rawhide. It is much better for them and they can digest it easier. It is only a treat every now and then for them and they love it.
You will find a lot of Bagel stores have Doggie Bags of Yesterdays Bagels.
