Not just another birthday cake

There are birthday cakes, and then there are some very special birthday cakes. Some people are talented enough to be able to create their own birthday cake master pieces. While others who aren't so fortunate to have such great talent are destined to buy their birthday cakes in stores. Now don't get me wrong here, some of those store bought cakes are pretty tasty, but coming up with new cake designs is certainly among fun things to do when your bored.

The traditional birthday cake has a long history behind it. Back in 15th century Germany the idea was born of making one layer cakes for birthdays. In the 17th century the birthday cake took on the form that we have come to know today. In the 18th century the tradition of adding candles to the top of a birthday cakes came about. However back in those days these birthday cakes were only available to the wealthy side of society. This is no longer true today, and just about anyone can afford a birthday cake on their special day.

I recently hit the big Five-O mark in life, and I've been around on this earth of ours for half a century now. To mark this once in a lifetime occasion, my daughter made me another one of her one of a kind original birthday cakes. I thought I would once again try to challenge you all. After seeing this birthday cake now, what do you think the theme might be that it's been given? Try not to over think this particular question, and look at what is happening with this cake. This is just for fun, and there really isn't any perfect answer to this question. (Hint - It really doesn't have anything to do with Kit Kat candy bars.) What do you think the theme of this birthday cake is?

Here's three close up pictures of the cake for you to look at -

Have you ever seen a birthday cake that looked like this one before?

Happy Birthday! for the fiftieth time in your wonderful life. Although I couldn't begin to guess the theme of the cake, but the best quality is having been baked with love.

I turn the "big Five-O" next year, and this is the cake I want!

Is the theme "happier than pigs, mud?"

What a great birthday cake! Your daughter did a very good job! Very original! And now, I understand better the English expression "pig out" ;-)

I would have liked to be there to share a slice of that wonderful cake!

What did she used for the pigs? Marzipan?

Happiest 50th birthday, TheHoleStory!

The cake is so cute - my first thought was 'Happier than pigs in mud', too, but on reading the other responses, I think kidscrafts got it. So, pig out on that delightful cake creation!

So far there have been some really good answers here for this birthday cake. There is no perfect answer, and the idea that my daughter had for this cake was simply some little pigs swimming in a bucket of mud. I figure it was supposed to be a wooden bucket, with the Kit Cat candy bars making up the wooden planks of the bucket. Thank you so much for stopping by, and please let us hear anymore thoughts that you may have on this birthday cake. This hub is always opened!

Happy Birthday. Thank you for sharing your cake. Where is the recipe? The theme...something do with sloppy good?

The Baker 9 months ago

It's called pig pin. And the pigs are mad out of gum paste. Also, the mud is chocolate ganache.

-baker of the cake ;)
