Welcome Visitors

I’ve created this really awesome, super easy cake that everyone will love. I will give you all the necessary instructions below.

Trust me, you will not be disappointed. It is always a party favorite!

But First ~ There's a Twist

The yummy dessert I am presenting here in this article consists of three layers. The main flavors are pineapple, orange and vanilla.

HERE’S THE FUN PART ~ I WANT YOU TO FEEL FREE TO CREATE YOUR OWN FLAVOR COMBINATION

I’ve created a table to give you ideas of how to tweak my recipe to utilize the flavors that you like best. You can find my table with suggested flavor combinations at the end of this article.

Here’s an example: Although I’ve named the specific cake I made for this article Orange Pineapple Dream Cake, I’ve made this dessert before. Last time I made it, I used totally different flavors and would have named that cake something like Supreme Chocolate Coconut Fluff Cake.

No matter what flavor combination you decide to use, this cake is light and delicious ~ sure to be devoured by family and friends!

Let’s begin with the instructions.

Main ingredients.
Main ingredients.

What You Will Need

  • One boxed cake mix plus the ingredients required such as oil and eggs
  • Two envelopes Dream Whip (one box contains two envelopes)
  • Two small (4 serving each) packages instant pudding
  • One 8 oz. tub of extra creamy Cool Whip
  • 2 3/4 cup COLD Milk (2% or whole)
  • Fruit (canned and/or fresh)
  • Choice of flavoring if desired
  • Choice of garnishment if desired

NOTE: This recipe can be modified for diabetics and those trying to watch their sugar and/or fat intake by using sugar free, light, or low fat options.

I used an 11X16 Jelly Roll Pan = thinner cake = more cuts to serve more people!
I used an 11X16 Jelly Roll Pan = thinner cake = more cuts to serve more people!

One of My Lil Secrets

For this recipe, I like to use a jelly roll pan instead of using the typical 9 X 13 cake pan. You could be creative and use any cake pans you wish including two round or square pans, etc.

My theory is: using a jelly roll pan (mine is 11 X 16) allows for a thinner, larger cake that serves more guests.

Layer One of Three: The Cake

Prepare cake mix according to box instructions.

I used a pineapple cake mix.

I use a hand mixer for this recipe.
I use a hand mixer for this recipe.
Ready for the oven! IMPORTANT: Cake will be done MUCH earlier if using a larger pan!
Ready for the oven! IMPORTANT: Cake will be done MUCH earlier if using a larger pan!

BE SURE TO ADJUST YOUR BAKING TIME ACCORDINGLY. If using a larger pan like a jelly roll pan, you will not find baking instructions on the cake mix box for this size. For example, the cake mix I used said bake a 9 X 13 cake for 32-34 minutes. MY 11 X 16 CAKE WAS DONE IN LESS THAN 20 MINUTES. So be sure to keep an eye on it, testing with a toothpick when it begins to look done.

Allow cake to cool before removing from pan.
Allow cake to cool before removing from pan.

FLIP CAKE onto another pan, the back of a large cookie sheet works well. THEN FLIP IT AGAIN TO RIGHT SIDE UP ONTO A SERVING TRAY. The red tray that I used measures 11 1/2 X 17.

My red tray is similar to a typical "cafeteria tray."
My red tray is similar to a typical "cafeteria tray."

Layer Two of Three: Dream Whip > Pudding > Fruit

Once cake is completely cooled, you are ready to prepare the second layer.

MIX 2 PACKAGES OF DREAM WHIP WITH 1 CUP COLD MILK. Beat on high for approximately 6 minutes until peaks begin to form.

ADD 2 PACKAGES OF INSTANT PUDDING PLUS 1 3/4 CUP COLD MILK to the Dream Whip. (I used vanilla pudding.) Beat on medium for approximately two minutes.

ADD FRUIT IF DESIRED. For my recipe, I only had "chunked" pineapple in a can. I drained the juice and cut the pineapple even smaller making it more like "crushed" pineapple. I squeezed all the juice out and blended the pineapple into the Dream Whip/pudding mixture.

NOTE: Depending on what flavors you are combining, you may like to add fresh fruit such as strawberries. Diced mandarin oranges would be good. You could also do something like banana or kiwi slices on top of your second layer. Be creative.

Preparing the Dream Whip.

Add the pudding and additional milk into the Dream Whip. Mix according to instructions above. Then add fruit if desired.

Layer Three of Three: Extra Creamy Cool Whip

I blended several drops of orange oil flavoring into the Cool Whip adding a yummy orange flavor to compliment the pineapple.

This is a luscious looking cake recipe, Sharon. I'm going to give it to a neighbor of mine who loves to bake and experiment with new recipes. Since she is often asking my opinion of her tasty concoctions, I will get the opportunity to eat this yummy dessert without any extra effort on my part. Clever, no?

Anamika, Cindy, Lela, Susan, Jackie, Stephanie, Kelly, Brenda, SanneL, Angela, Maria, Leslie, Dr. BJ & Barb ~ (All ladies! Where are the men bakers? ha)

Thank you all SO much for stopping by to check out this awesome recipe. I apologize for taking longer than usual to respond to many of the comments here. I really appreciate your votes, bookmarks and shares.

Thank you for the mention about the possibility of this recipe being altered "diabetic friendly." That is absolutely possible, and I think I will add a mention to that effect in the text.

Yes, I kinda of get detailed like I did with my party punch recipe and like to give you lots of choices. But I think it's fun to allow others to be creative and truly make it their own. I hope the table gives you lots of creative ideas. There are so many combinations that would be wonderful.

I wouldn't push that this recipe is SO YUMMY unless it really is. I'm telling you girls, it really is yummy, light, cool and simply really refreshing. It's a nice change from the typical icing on a cake. And it really is easy too.

Now if you'd like to share the recipe with your neighbor like Dr. BJ and then hope you receive a taste, that is up to you. But I cannot be responsible when your neighbor tastes it first and then hides it from everyone else :) I'm just sayin' . . .

I really hope you try this recipe. Thank you all for your great feedback!

Hi dappledesigns ~ I agree that typical cake can be very heavy and not something that is my favorite either. But this recipe you will love. Make sure you use a larger pan like a jelly roll pan. This way, the cake is thinner which takes away from that "heaviness".

Pineapple - French Vanilla - Crushed Pineapple IS A GREAT COMBINATION and the one that I have used the last two times I have made this. BUT, if you have orange oil, mix a few drops into the Cool Whip, it makes a huge difference. I hope you enjoy, let me know how it goes!

Sounds delicious! I love how you added the flavor combo chart - there's some great ideas there! This pineapple version reminds me of a cake I love called Hawaiian Wedding Cake. I recently tried a new cake recipe that used a strawberry cake mix, then you topped it with a cream cheese mixture with strawberries mixed into it, before you baked it. I changed the flavors to choc. cake mix and switched the strawberries to choc. chips instead. It was delicious!

Hi Peg ~ glad you like the variety of combination choices. Of course, one of my favorites is the pineapple-orange. I just made it again to sell at my little cafe this past week. It sold out quickly! Thanks so much for stopping by!

I swore I commented on this before. Did you put a version of this on Bubblews? Anyway I love the table and all the varieties of cakes that one can make. I will visit this again and I am going to share it too. Voted up

Hi Debra ~ I looked briefly and didn't see a previous comment. No, I did not put a version on Bubblews, just this one. Thank you so much for your comments and sharing too. I saw the shares when you did them-sorry I didn't get to comment back until now. Thanks again!
