Organic Breakfast Ideas & Recipes - Healthy, Delicious & Easy to Make!
I recently switched over to a mostly organic diet, meaning that (85%-90%) of all the food I consume is organic. Thus far, I'm feeling fantastic - tons of energy and my skin looks better than it ever has. Not to mention, my mental clarity has greatly improved and I feel like I can conquer the world!
As a self-professed gourmet, making the switch to a mostly organic diet wasn't that hard; I still get to use tons of fresh ingredients and enjoy flavorful, rich meals. Here are some organic breakfast ideas that I have rotated into my own healthy organic lifestyle; simple, easy and delicious. I would like to add that these organic breakfast ideas are really simple and are meant to save you time in the morning. Organic Iced Coffee
Brew some fair-trade, organic coffee, pour into a glass and cool off in the fridge or freezer for thirty minutes while you're getting ready for the day. Once mostly cooled, combine with 1/2 cup of ice cold fat-free organic milk (I love Stonyfield Farms). If desired, add some organic honey until you reach your desired level of sweetness. Pop in a couple of ice cubes and there you have it - an incredibly tasty, good-for-you, luscious Cafe Au Lait (coffee with milk)! It's difficult to find coffee that tastes this good at even a local coffee shop. For the best taste, I prefer using a French Dark Roast. Hint: I usually mix the honey in the coffee while it is hot because it dissolves much easier.
Organic Oatmeal and Blueberries
Organic oatmeal has to be one of the healthiest breakfast foods out there. Get one of your daily servings of whole grain as well as a healthy antioxidant boost from organic blueberries! Simply cook organic oatmeal, add fat-free organic milk and mix in 1 cup of fresh, organic blueberries for a great low calorie breakfast idea. Add some cinnamon and nuts and you're good to go! Strawberries and raspberries also go great with oatmeal.
Organic Peaches and Cottage Cheese
This organic breakfast idea is simply delicious - combine fresh organic cottage cheese with peach slices (I use frozen organic peaches because unfortunately I can't find them local here) and enjoy! I sometimes add a few slices of strawberries or cinnamon and nuts for a heartier breakfast. If you're not a fan of cottage cheese, try using plain Greek yogurt, which packs a lot of protein and is non-fat!
Organic English Muffin with Almond Butter and Sliced Apples
I recently started eating Ezekiel 9 brand flourless whole grain English muffins. They're really great and even more fabulous when you try them this way: Toast each half, spread each half with 1 tbsp of fresh almond butter and layer on a few slices of an organic apple. Crunchy, nutty and filling. If you can find them, Organic bananas would be fantastic, too!
Organic Breakfast Sandwich
I also use flourless whole grain English muffins to make a hearty breakfast sandwich. I fry egg whites in some natural butter, fold up the egg whites once they're done cooking and place in between the muffin halves. You can also add your favorite natural, nitrate-free bacon or ham as well as cheese. However, just the eggs and a bit of butter make for a great breakfast!
