How to make instant delicious soft Rava Idli in steamer Recipe

Rava idli recipe

Let me introduce myself first. I’m eshwar I’d like to show you today how to make Rava idli the Indian way. As a kid I always loved to eat rava idli for my breakfast. The reason is very simple. It’s healthy, delicious and most of all you don’t need any side dish to eat them unlike normal idli, where you need some kid of chutney to dip. So, here goes. My all time favorite Rava idli recipe

Ingredients for idli recipe with idli rava

1. Rava - 8 o.z

2. Yogurt - 4 o.z

3. Green pepper - 2

4. Red pepper - 1

5. Coriander – few strands

6. Mustard seeds - 1 tsp

7. White lentil -1 tsp

8. Split chick peas -1 tsp

9. Salt – 1 tsp

10. Vegetable oil - 3 tbsp

11. Butter - 1 tsp

Cutlery you need For making instant rava idli :

1. Idli plates or Idli trays

2. A Idli steamer

You can find the above cutleries at any Indian cookery shop

The Recipe:

1. Batter:

Turn up the heat to medium and place a non stick pan over the stove and pour little vegetable oil and butter onto it. Once the oil is hot, bring in the mustard seeds. When you see the mustard seeds spluttering, slowly add green pepper and red pepper by breaking them into small pieces (This will release the flavor in a better way) and sauté the peppers slowly. Now introduce the coriander, lentils and peas into the mixture and sauté for 2 more minutes. At this point the mixture should be gold in color. Introduce Rava into the mixture and sauté it until it also turns gold. Now set aside the pan from heat and add salt and yogurt to the mixture. Mix it with your hand (do not use a spatula or any kind of tool) and bring the batter to a pan cake kind of a consistency. Now the mix is ready for cooking

2. Rave idli recipe:

Take your idli plates or idli trays and grease it with butter or vegetable oil (this is to make sure that you’re idli come out soft and non sticky). Pour water to the bottom of you idli steamer and Pour the batter on to the trays and place it inside the steamer and close the lid. Steam the idli for 20 min at medium heat. After 20 minutes open up the steamer, your idli must be bulged and fluffy. Using a tooth pick pierce the idli and take out the pick. If its covered with batter, steam for 5 more minutes. If it comes out clean, your idli is ready to eat. Remove the trays from the steamer and with a spoon take out the idli from the idli plates slowly and serve it on a plate. There, you have soft yummy idli for breakfast or dinner. Enjoy your idli with peanut chutney or tomato ketchup or even without anything. It tastes better always…
