Salt-Free Herb and Spice Blends

Salt is easy to get too much of when cooking and eating. Practically everything that is processed, unless specifically stating 'salt free' has some amount of salt in it. Here are a couple of spice and herb blends to use instead of salt to season soups, meats, vegetables, and more.

Salt Free Spice Blend

Yields about 14 tablespoons of salt free spice blend seasoning.

  • 6 tablespoons onion powder
  • 3 tablespoons paprika
  • 2 tablespoons dry mustard
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon poultry seasoning (herb blend only)
  • 2 teaspoons black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder (no salt variety)
  • 1/2 teaspoon curry powder (no salt variety)
  1. Mix all the ingredients. Place in a shaker or spice jar. Use in place of salt to season foods, and use within a couple of months.

Salt Free Dried Herb Blend

Yields about 12 tablespoons of salt free dried herb blend seasoning.

  • 3 tablespoon dried basil
  • 3 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 4 1/2 teaspoons dried savory
  • 4 1/2 teaspoons dried marjoram
  • 3 teaspoons onion powder
  • 3 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 3 teaspoons dried sage
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried thyme
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons black pepper, optional
  1. Mix all the ingredients. Place in a shaker or spice jar. Use in place of salt to season foods, and use within a couple of months.
