Simple And Easy Hors D'oeuvres Recipes For Any Party, Or Occasion.

Planning a dinner party or small get together does not have to be hard, nor overly time consuming. The main thing is to plan ahead, and make lists of everything you will need ahead of time. Plan to set time aside to make some of the HorsD'oeuvres ahead of time if needed. Everyone loves to nibble on tasty finger foods! You may also want to consider if you are going to use a theme as well. If you will be doing this, you will want to set the mood with plates, platters, napkins, cups, tablecloth, etc. This will add a wonderful touch to your party, rather than just putting the HorsD'oeuvres out on a table.
Here are some really nice HorsD'oeuvres to get you started on your party.
Lets start with a dip recipe:
Onion Dip
This is a dip that is made from scratch. Have some fresh veggies, chips and crackers with it.
Prep: 10 minutes, plus time to cool. ** Cook time 30 minutes. ** Makes 1 2/3 cup, so double what ever amount you need.
Ingredients:
2 large onions, finely chopped.( A mini chopper works great for this).
2 cups canned chicken broth
1 tablespoon minced garlic. ( fresh or Jared is the best, as it will have the most flavor).
1/2 of a bay leaf
1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
1 teaspoon Red Wine Vinegar
1 cup sour cream
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
Combine in a saucepan onions, chicken broth, garlic, thyme & bay leaf. Heat to boiling over high heat, then reduce heat & cook until liquid is almost completely evaporated, about 25 minutes.
Then put the mixture in a medium sized bowl. Stir in vinegar. Cool to room temperature. Stir in the sour cream, salt & pepper. Cover & refrigerate till really chilled or overnight.
Vegetable Dip
1 1/4 cup mayonnaise
1/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon chili sauce
1 clove of garlic
1 tomato peeled
2 tablespoons chopped parsley
In a blender, put all of the ingredients except the mayonnaise, and blend well for about a minute or so, until well blended. Chill in the fridge, until serving time.
Shrimp Cocktail
Here are 2 different cocktail sauces to accompany the Shrimp. You can simply buy shrimp that is ready to serve, all you have to do is make the sauces.
Red Cocktail Sauce
1 cup (any brand) bottled cocktail sauce
2 tablespoons minced jalapeno chili
2 teaspoons fresh lime juice
Combine in a small bowl all the ingredients, blend well, cover and refrigerate up to 24 hours. Makes about 1 cup, so you will have to make as much needed, depending on how many people you will be entertaining.
Remoulade Verte
1/2 cup of mayonnaise
2 tablespoons sour cream
1tablespoon fresh chopped parsley
3/4 teaspoon fresh chopped tarragon ( you can even use dried)
1teaspoon fresh chopped chives
1 anchovy chopped fine
1 teaspoon capers, drained & chopped
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
Combine all the ingredients in a small bowl, and blend well. Cover and refrigerate up to 24 hours. Makes about 2/3 cup.
Stuffed Mushrooms With Sausage
Stuffed mushrooms are a must have at any party, because guest really enjoy them!
Prep time: About 60 minutes. Bake: 15 minutes. Makes about 30 mushrooms
1 1/2 lbs medium white mushrooms
8 ounces ground hot sausage. (you can use sweet if you want)
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella or provolone cheese
1/4 of a cup dried seasoned bread crumbs
Start by removing the stems from mushrooms & chop them. Heat a 10 inch skillet over medium heat, then add the sausage; cook until browned around 8 minutes. Drain the sausage and place on a paper towel. Put the mushroom stems into the skillet, cook and stir until tender, around 10 minutes. Remove from heat; mix the sausage in with the mushroom stems, add the cheese & bread crumbs.
Next preheat the oven to 450 degrees. Fill the mushroom caps with the sausage mixture. Place the mushrooms on a cookie sheet lined with foil, and sprayed lightly with cooking spray. Bake about 15 minutes until they are heated through. Serve hot.

Sausage Balls
2 cups Bisquick or Jiffy Mix
1 lb ground hot sausage
8 oz Sharp Chedder cheese, shredded
In a bowl mix all the ingredients, and shape into little balls. Place on a cookie sheet, and bake in a 400 degree oven for 8 to 10 minutes.
Cocktail Meatballs
2lbs hamburger
1 small onion chopped very fine ( you might want to use a mini chopper for this)
2 eggs
6 tablespoons bread crumbs
dash of oregano & garlic powder
salt & pepper to taste
In a bowl mix all the ingredients together. Shape into tiny little meatballs. In a large skillet (2 if needed) brown the meatballs, then add 2 small cans tomato sauce, and 1 can of water, add a teaspoon of sugar and some salt and pepper. Simmer for 1 1/2 hours
