The chilly weather has finally come in force this previous week or two, which indicates much warmer flavors from the kitchen. This cake is rich and moist, and perfumed with cinnamon, cloves, allspice and nutmeg - all seasonings that make you really feel warm and comfy. Try out this one together with cream cheese frosting.

Ingredients

1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup vegetable shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup sugar
4 large eggs
1 1/2 cups buttermilk
2 tsp . vanilla extract
2 cups flour
1 tbsp .cocoa
2 teaspoon baking powder
1 tsp . baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp ground allspice
1/8 tsp . ground cloves

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350F. Lightly butter two 9-inch cake pans, cover the bottoms with parchment paper, and butter the paper. Set-aside.

2. Inside the bowl of an electric mixer, beat together the butter and shortening until fluffy. Add sugars and beat tilltotallycombined. Add eggs, one-by-one, blending well after each addition and scraping around the sides of the bowl as you operate. Mix in vanilla.

3. In a different bowl, sift or whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda and spices until entirelycombined. Add to the butter mixture, alternately with the buttermilk, in rough thirds. Blend well.

4. Divide batter equallyamongst the prepared pans, and bake in pre-heated oven for thirty-five minutes.

5. Let cakes to cool in their pans for at least 20 minutes prior to turning out onto wire racks to finish cooling fully. Ice with Cream Cheese Frosting.
