Hot Beef Sundae

How does a hot beef sundae sound to you ? This is probably the least weird and one of the tastiest dishes that you'll find served at the State Fair.

It consists of slow roasted beef served with gravy, buttery mashed potatoes with cheddar cheese sprinkled on top and topped with a cherry tomato.

I have to admit first glance that looks like real whipped cream and a cherry topping the roast beef.

Fried Frog's Legs

Depending on what part of the country that you're from fried frog's legs may not seem all that strange. And I do have it on good authority that they are actually quite delicious and taste a lot like chicken. But if this meal seems a little too strange for you, you'll find plenty of other offerings on this page that may be more to your liking, or not.

Chicken Fried Bacon

If you're a fan of chicken fried steak then you may also enjoy chicken fried bacon. This dish which was invented in Texas, of course! Is said to be very delicious and even won the award for best taste at the 08 Big Tex Choice Awards.

This dish which is very popular is usually served as an appetizer with cream gravy.

Fried Coca Cola

To make this unusual and tasty dish they use frozen coca cola flavored batter which is first deep fried, and then topped with coca cola syrup, cinnamon sugar and whipped topping with a cherry on top.

Fried coke was first introduced at the Texas State Fair in 06 where it won the most creative award.

I don't know about you but the fried coke doesn't sound all that bad, of course at 800 calories you wouldn't want to eat it everyday. But the foods displayed on this page are more novelties that you might try once a year.

Spaghetti and meatballs on a stick

I've heard that this one is really good. To make it they mix cooked spaghetti with the meatballs and then dip it in a garlic flavored before it is then deep- fried to perfection. And eaten with marinara sauce.

Fried Jellybeans
This dish is made by rolling jelly beans in funnel cake batter and deep frying until golden brown before topping with powdered sugar.

Alligator on a stick
I probably wouldn't try this one, but fans of this tasty dish say that it actually tastes like pork. For some reason I was thinking that they would say chicken.

Deep Fried Scorpion
This is another dish that I'll pass on, but then again what could be more delicious than deep-fried scorpion served dipped in chocolate.

Spam Curds
This dish which even has its own facebook page is made by dipping chunks of spam into a batter and deep-fried and then served with ranch dressing, yummy! Spam fans everywhere are going to love this dish.

Deep Fried Pig Ears
One of the Minnesota State Fair delicacies is the deep-fried pig ears. They look quite a bit like curly fries and taste like pork. The pig ears are served with chipotle sauce.

Fried Butter
This dish really isn't as strange as it sounds, to make it they dip a pat of butter in a batter and deep fry it to a golden brown. The end result is a warm biscuit with a delicious butter center.

So have you tried any strange foods at the State Fair or anywhere else for that matter?

I tried frog legs in the Philippines. I think I had alligator while in Brazil. I hate SPAM. They just had maggot sandwiches at the California State Fair in Sacramento this year. Eeewwwwwwwww. I am willing to try most food at the fair, but I usually go for the corn dogs with some mustard. Interesting Hub.

Deep Fried Pigs Ears look like curly fries? Oh, you betcha I'll be double checking my next order of curly fries! But I could sure go for Fried Coca Cola and Fried Butter. They both sound YUMMY. Chicken Fried Bacon...not so much, especially with cream gravy if one plans to ride any rides on the midway shortly after eating. ;D

That Hot Beef Sundae is just a Hot Beef Sandwich without the bread. Served in a cup with a cherry tomato. I like that part!
