Italian sausage meat Strata
Simple and delicious
For this very easy Italian dish you will need:
1 medium onion
Half a dozen mushrooms
A few slices of stale bread diced up.
A cup of milk
salt and pepper.
Put some oil in a pan and fry the diced up sausage meat. When they are nicely browned, add the chopped onion and cook together. Next add the diced up mushrooms with salt and pepper and fry them all together.
In a separate bowl beat the eggs into the milk and add salt and pepper. Pour this over the diced up bread.
Butter a shallow pan. Add the sausage/onion/mushroom mix and pour the bread and the egg mixture over it. Mix it all together and chill it in the fridge for half an hour.
Sprinkle the top with grated cheese and bake at gas 4, 325F for 45 minutes to an hour.
Try not to eat the lot like I did.
