If you like the taste of garlic and onions you will want to try these chicken breasts. The aroma of them baking in the oven will have everyone in the house asking what's for dinner, and when will it be ready.

The following recipe is easy to prepare, and can be on your table to enjoy in less than an hour. To accompany the stuffed chicken breasts I prepared a colorful pepper, broccoli, and bean sprout stir fry with a side baby spinach salad.

Cook Time for Stuffed Chicken Breasts

Prep time: 15 min
Cook time: 40 min
Ready in: 55 min
Yields: Serves 6 people an 11 ounce chicken breast

Ingredients for stuffed chicken breasts

  • 6 skinless chicken breasts, or chicken breasts with the skin left on
  • 5 garlic cloves, if this seems too overpowering use less
  • 1/3 cup of butter
  • green onions
  • lemon pepper, or another seasoning you'd prefer
  • cooking spray
  • toothpicks

Preparing and stuffing the chicken breasts

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Prepare an oven safe baking dish by applying cooking spray and set aside.
  2. Grate the garlic cloves and place in a microwave safe bowl. Add butter to the garlic cloves and microwave on high for two minutes. Set aside.
  3. Chop the green onions.
  4. Wash and pat dry the chicken breasts. In the thickest part of the chicken breast cut a diagonal slit. With a teaspoon add the garlic butter mixture into the slit. Add about a tablespoon of the chopped green onions into into the slit, close the slit with toothpicks, and set the chicken into the baking dish.
  5. Brush the remaining garlic butter mixture onto the chicken breasts, and sprinkle with the lemon pepper or a seasoning of your choice. Pop into the oven, and bake for 30-40 minutes or until chicken juices run clear.

For Boneless Chicken Breasts

  • For this recipe I used chicken breasts with the bone in. If you want to use a boneless chicken breast reduce the cooking time by ten to fifteen minutes.
  • A four ounce boneless chicken breast cooked in a 350 degree Fahrenheit oven should normally take 20 - 30 minutes.
  • To make sure that chicken is cooked use a meat thermometer. Chicken will be cooked when it reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit in the thickest part.

Hope you enjoy the stuffed chicken, and no the toothpicks don't burn, just turn a little darker. That was my concern the first time I used toothpicks.

Oh Susan~the pictures alone got me so excited to try this recipe. I've never stuffed chicken but it doesn't seem too hard. Do the tooth picks burn at all? Great recipe hub and I can't wait to try it.

Looks delicious to the point that I must try! 11 ounces seems like a killer for me. It's so large! I usually use 4oz breasts. That will definitely make the calories for this good. Thanks for sharing, I'm making this soon for sure!

freecampingaussie, Thanks so much!

duffsmom, The chicken breasts that I used in this hub were not boneless but this recipe will work for boneless too. If using boneless decrease the cooking time by ten - fifteen minutes. Hope that you enjoy them.

Cardisa, If he likes his chicken charred you could make these breasts with the skin left on and cook them on a higher temperature. Or like you say brush them with sauce :)

Yummy, yes this looks delicious and very healthy. I could certainly go for these. My fiancé on the other hand would prefer some sort of char on the chicken. He hates white looking meat, I have to make it dark when serving him so maybe I'll brush on some teriyaki or soy sauce to give it some color.

RH, I was cooking ribs on the grill one night and came inside for a quick second and started talking to Al. Some guy came to my door and said uh..... you may want to check your BBQ it's smoking like crazy. He'd driving by and saw the smoke. My ribs that night were pretty much uneatable.

Stuffing chicken breasts can be fun if only to see what you can come up with to stuff them with :)
