Tasty Green Smootie

Green Smoothie Receipe

Four months after a Raw Food Chef certification course I start my day with a green smoothie, now matter what! I was recently away for a few days and packed my mini blender along with my favorite fruits to make my morning smoothie.

One of my favorite green smoothie is a version of a version but still has a lot of nutrients and gives me a lot of energy through out the day.

If you a Vita Mix, great! Bring it out and get yourself ready for a tasty smoothie.

Put the following in a high speed blender/Vita Mixer/Blendtec

1 to 2 cups of water

1 apple (or pear, peach, 2 plums, or 1/2 cup of grapes)

1/2 cup of your favorite berries (Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries or blackberries)

1 banana

1/2 lemon (peeled and seeded) or 1 - 2 tablespoons of lemon juice

1 teaspoon of maca **

1 1/2 cup of greens (kale, parsley, chard, romaine, spinach or edible weeds)

1 - 2 dates (for a sweeter smoothie)

Blend until smooth

Some people use hemp or sesame seeds as well, and really there is so many green smoothie recipes.

I have a simple recipe that works best for me

1 - 2 cups of water

1 medium apple

1/2 cup of blueberries or strawberries (or what berries are in season)

A handful of kale or spinach

1 teaspoon of maca

pinch of cinnaminion

I am aware that our bodies will tell us when we don't need as much greens or a certain fruit, so I will substitute different fruits/greens during the week when needed. 

**Maca is one of several "super foods". Maca is an organic powder from Peru and has been proven to improve memory and increases oxygen in the blood. I know for myself after training in the gym a teaspoon of maca in my smoothie helps my body and joints recover safely and quickly.
