The Bean Palace - An Interesting Place to Visit in NE Arkansas
The Bean Palace
The Bean Palace? Ok, first things first... You may ask, "Is there really a place called the Bean Palace?" The answer is yes! The Bean Palace is indeed an actual place, I heard of only a few years ago. I thought people were kidding when I first heard it! Its true though, even when they assured me it was real, I had my doubts. I mean come on, The Bean Palace? Well, needless to say, we had to go there for a visit when visiting family in North West Arkansas. Who would have thought, that the humble, simple "bean", could inspire people make a restaurant practically dedicated to just that? Never underestimate the power and influence of what you may think is just simple ingredient!
The Bean Palace is connected to an old mill, which makes it even more interesting to go to. Of course, you can imagine that they have very good beans, cornbread, and any "fixins" you can conjure up. My grandmother and her family from Arkansas, were the people I grew up with having beans and cornbread with on many a Sunday afternoon. I am telling you, the people in this region KNOW their beans! Of course they have waffles, grits, cobblers and fried chicken just to name a few other things that might tempt you palette.
It is worth the trip, just for the views you have along the way. If I hadn't been there, I wouldn't have known, and since it has been a while, I actually miss the whole North Western area of Arkansas. The whole area is simply beautiful.
One of the best memories of our time at the Bean Palace, were when my we were driving back home to Texas. My husband, 2 boys and myself, were coming up with so many jokes about the Bean Palace, and making up songs that we were doubled over laughing. It will always be a great reminder of the time we had there, and brings many happy memories. I still get the occasional request, "Hey Mom, sing your song about the Bean Palace!! Please?!" Or, "Mom, please make up another story about the bean palace!" This brings a smile to my face just remembering it. I still can't believe there is a place that is called the Bean Palace. People that know their beans and love them, can maybe begin to understand the fondness that would generate such a place.
Definitely go there if you are in that area. They also have wonderful craft fairs every year. I have been there, and its just amazing. There is something for everyone, and lots of great food and music and views. It is located on War Eagle Road in Rogers Arkansas. Stop by to get your beans, cornbread and slaw, or try their Black Bean Taco Salad, its great food.
To see more pictures, visit their websites, and see how cool the War Eagle Mill and bridge is, where the Bean Palace is located. We hope to go back before long.
*Beans...The humble ingredient that inspired a palace... Ok not quite a real palace, but its still quite funny. Its a bold name, so you know the beans will be great!
