The Classic Reuben Sandwich

The Reuben Salad

With the world trying to be in a more healthy place many people are eating salads, and salads are not what the use to be they have really grown up over the years meaning that they are not boring lettuce and tomato with red onions they have become more bolder and more filling and are use for more than a first course starter for example ...Most salads were mostly cold but now they are the German potato salad this salad is served warm and the taste is truly awesome.

We also have the Leafy vegetable salads that are served with a tasty dressing a long with other tasty toppings like nuts, croutons and even cheese and pasta or some type of whole grains.

The good thing about salads now is they can be served anytime of the day as a appetizer, main course with some added sliced chicken or slice beef added to it and even a dessert salad containing fresh fruits either way salads have come a long way and the salad I want to talk about is a take from the classic Reuben sandwich but reconstructed into a salad.

I will say this by no means do I want to take away the flavor and the great tasting profile of the Reuben so what I did was use each part of the sandwich and use them in a different way for the salad I turned the rye bread into croutons, the corn beef into strips chopped the sauerkraut and also cubed the Swiss cheese adding it all together mix some mix greens and tomatoes cut into wedges drizzled in that tasty thousand island dressing I'm telling you this is a great tasting salad that I'm sure your going to love.

The Classic Reuben Sandwich

If you love going to get fresh sandwiches at your favorite delicatessen then I know you must have tasted the classic Reuben sandwich, now there is a lot of talk about where the Reuben was originated but from what I gathered the Reuben was invented in New York City by a deli owner named Arthur Reuben and it was to be believed that it was made with pressed ham and not corn beef in or around 1914 but in or around 1956 a person by the name Reuben Kay made the corn beef version and went on to win a national recipe contest and won with the Reuben sandwich and it was then that it became famous.

To be honest I'm not sure if any of the Reuben sandwich tales are true but The New Food Lover's Companion a book written by Sharon Tyler Herbst, Ron Herbst makes claim that these tales are in fact true, but for me it does not matter at all because I just love that classic Reuben taste and flavor.

I believe that the Reuben is more than just a sandwich I have took the taste and flavor of the Reuben and created some very tasty items like my Sauerkraut Reuben Balls http://hub.me/aeLUy" with a hint of sausage to give them that extra kick of flavor and my classic Reuben Salad, both of them I will be sharing with you later in this blog but for now lets talk about my version of the classic Reuben.

My Classic Reuben Sandwich

For me the classic Reuben sandwich is one of those things that do not need a recipe for because it's really simple to make and later I will a how to video on how to make a Reuben but for nowhere is how I make my classic corn beef Reuben masterpiece as well as a couple of variations that I talked about earlier..

4 slices sandwich rye ....Deli style

1000 Island Dressing

unsalted butter

2 - 3 oz; slices of Swiss cheese

8 oz of fresh deli corned beef; very thinly sliced

4 oz. of deli sauerkraut

Methods

To begin making this tasty treat you need to get your bread out then butter them on one side, now lets make this sandwich, using the unbuttered generously spread these slices of each piece of bread with 1000 island dressing.

Now using a cool cast iron fry pan place two slices of the rye bread butter side down in the pan at this time add your deli corn beef on to the bread then your sauerkraut then you cheese at this point place your other 2 slices of deli rye on the top with the butter side up.

Set your fry pan on a medium low heat and cook until the butter browns and toast the rye bread for 5 to 7 minutes then flip the sandwich over and cook the other side until it's toasted brown

Remove from the fry pan and serve and enjoy.

The Classic Reuben Sandwich

There is nothing better than a classic Reuben sandwich the corn beef, the Swiss cheese and the sauerkraut with that 1000 island dressing just makes you want to come back for more.

Putting A Twist On The Classic Rueben Sandwich

When you think of putting a twist on some thing that is already great it could be very hard but that does not mean that it can't be done the main thing is to make it believable but not to outrageous because if you do that it will make the twist that your trying to get across something that someone really don't want to try.

The twist on my classic Reuben sandwich is to keep the flavor of the Reuben and one of the ways I have done that is to make I a little more healthier turning it into a great tasting salad taking the bread turning them into croutons and making it into a form of a salad but keeping the classic Reuben taste and flavors.

Another twist that I have done is turned the classic Reuben sandwich into bite sizes balls giving it a more of a appetizer statement still keep that great Reuben taste and flavor I took this a little bit farther by add a taste of sausage to dish to bring out the flavor even more.. I will say this either way you try I know your going to love the outcome and if you really like them like I know you will just vote it up and also rate it.
